I thought it would be a good idea to have a page where you can get to all the IDU newspapers, to make it easier to read all the news. After making this, I realized that this is kind of what NS Newswire is for, but oh well I made it already
Go see it!
?

The teams have qualified, are flown into the people's republic of Groot Gouda, ready to kick some ball!
We have three groups of 4 nations. The numbers 1 and 2 are placed for the quarter finals automatically. The two best numbers 3 also qualify (based on points, then goals). After the group round it's the traditional knock-out system.

3. Keeslandia
4. Mikitivity
Group B
1. Grosseschnauzer
2. Adam Island
3. DataGenesis
4. Lloegr-Cymru
Group C

2. Wondervolle
3. Groot Gouda
4. Isles of Koster
Playing schedule:
Saturday sep. 3: 1 vs 2 & 3 vs 4
Monday sep 5: 1 vs 3 & 2 vs 4
Wednesday sep 7: 4 vs 1 & 2 vs 3
Group A plays in the Lakeside Stadium and the Olympic Stadium (provinces Bayhood and Northillians)
Group B plays in Stadium Green Garden (Flowerdale) and the Football Factory in the Gowlands
Group C plays in the Groot Gouda Arena in Gouda City and the Eastmeadow stadium.
(see the map for the provinces).
The Groot Gouda stadium has a capacity of 70.000 spectators, the Eastmeadow Football Arena 55.000, the others between 40.000 and 50.000.
Thursday: if necessary, a match between tying nations, in the Stadium Green Garden.
Second round (quarter final), Friday sep. 9:
(Groot Gouda Arena, Eastmeadow Football Arena, Lakeside Stadium, Stadium Green Garden)
1. Winner A vs Second nr 3 (not from A group)
2. Second B vs Winner C
3. Best nr 3 (not from B group) vs Winner B
4. Second C vs Second A
Semi-final, Sunday sep. 11 (Groot Gouda Arena and Eastmeadow Football Arena)
1. Winner 1 vs Winner 2
2. Winner 3 vs Winner 4
Final, wednesday sep 13 (Groot Gouda Arena)
Winner 1 vs Winner 2
I will use the benelux football tournament system, which determined the scores by ranking. You take the worldwide rankings of each nation, and strip the rankings so that both rankings have the same amount of numbers. (so if one is 134.946th, and the other 58.238th, you strip the 1 so both are 5 digits). Then, each digit is compared to the one of the other. The highest one gets a goal. If the scores draw, none gets a goal.
So, in our example:
34946 = 0 0 1 1 0 = 2
58238 = 1 1 0 0 1 = 3
so the final score is 2-3.
Points in the groups are as usual: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Points determine ranking, if they draw the difference between scored and received goals, then the result of the match between the tying nations, then the most scored goals. If everything draws, decision matches will be held to determine who goes to the next round.
In the knock-out rounds, after a draw, the IDU ranking is used in the same way to determine the scores after extra time. If that draws too, a penalty round determines the winner. Both teams get 5 penalties. By comparing the reverse of the home team against the other team worldwide ranking the outcome is determined (equal = both score). In our example
49431 = 0 1 1 1 0 = 3
58238 = 1 0 0 1 1 = 3
Note that the ranking is reversed first, then truncated.
So 3-3 after penalties. After which I give up and the highest world-wide ranking (that is the lowest number!) determines the outcome. (think of it as the second round of penalties where the first time one team scores and the other doesn't, it ends).
The PRoGG will host the tournament to save on flying trips accoss the IDU. Hotels will be taken care of, and nations get full access to training facilities near the hotel and around the stadium where they'll play.
For each match, 1/4 of the tickets is reserved for the Groot Gouda citizens, and 3/8 each for the national teams.
This thread is for the associated chat, and for showing your national colours!
The winner gets a beautiful silver cup, engraved with the IDU scales and with an acorn on the lid.
The officiall mascot of the IDU Football Championships is Mr. Pisang: :pisang:

Let the fun begin!
Happy 21st birthday, The Ayyubids!
I'm just curious, I was just wondering where everyone is located in real life. I'm in Brisbane, Australia in case anyone wanted to know.
Quote: UNCoESB
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.
Category: Environmental
Industry Affected: All Businesses
Proposed by: Venerable libertarians
Description: In these times of Population growth expanding into environmentally sensitive areas of the NS world, with natural habitats being encroached. With over fishing and hunting of game running unchecked, a side effect is the ever greater numbers of animals on the brink of extinction. It is with these concerns we enact the United Nations Conservation of Endangered Species Bill, UNCoESB
Article 1:The Executive
On ratification by the General Assembly, the UN shall set up an executive body to monitor NS World wildlife numbers. The Executive shall decide what numbers apply to each level of animal population and what Species receive the title "Endangered" and the protections the title affords. The Executive shall control funding and see it is used where it is most required.
Article 2:Quotas.
International best practise should be adopted in forming quotas and heavy penalties should be applied if these quotas are broken. Imposition of quotas should ensure that total bans on fisheries or game hunting of a specific species should be a rare event.
Article 3:Education.
National governments are charged with educating local populations in the benefits of conservation of species that are heavily hunted within their national boundaries.
Article 4:Species of National Importance.
Where there are species regarded with a sense of national importance, National governments may apply conservation orders on that species within its own national boundaries and impose national restrictions to hunting of that species. These restrictions shall only apply within the National boundary and are not applicable to neighbouring Nations unless an agreement has been set by the neighbouring countries.
National Governments may set penalties for breaches of these national conservation orders.
Article 5:Monitoring
The UN in conjunction with National and Regional Governments, Non Governmental Organisations and Environmental agencies shall constantly monitor closely wildlife numbers in their area of concern. These numbers shall be tallied yearly so they may show increases or decreases in the numbers of wildlife. If considerable decrease or a recurring trend of decrease in population is noted local conservation attempts shall be instituted at a national level aided by local populations and national agencies.
Article 6: Capture and Breeding
If local populations decrease to a worrying level then local Zoological and Marine specialists shall step in to capture and breed, in an attempt to reverse the decrease in numbers. Also, if larger populations of the same animal exist in another part of the NS world steps should be taken to introduce new blood lines to the endangered species.
Local Bans shall be instituted on hunting of the endangered animal until such time as it is deemed safe to do so. Quotas shall then be applied to the hunting of the recovering species.
Article 7:Full Escalation.
Where a Species of animal has come dangerously close to world extinction levels, The UN shall impose a Full escalation of Protection to the species. All hunting of the species shall be expressly forbidden. Full funding shall be granted for the escalation of steps to conserve the species and to rebuild its population to an acceptable level for the species to recover. Criminal charges shall be brought against any individual or group in contravention to this.
We hereby enact the UNCoESB.
The Author wishes to thank the Nation of ?Yeldan UN Mission? whose assistance has been invaluable.
From the UN.
Greetings!
Today, a new government was installed in Jonqui?re, the capital of the now defunct nation of Jonquiere-Tadoussac, under the protection of Baranxtu.
Said new government has taken the name of Protectorate of East Baranxtu and has already joined the IDU.
Via this installed government, Baranxtu will for the time being govern the area formerly occupied by Jonquiere-Tadoussac, until the nation either returns or a new member is willing to take over the nation; anyways, the government of East Baranxtu will then happily hand over the rule.
For now, the Governor of East Baranxtu and therefore head of state is former Minister of Security Liteneri Utaristu Mesehaggi who can be contacted both via a telegram to Baranxtu as well as East Baranxtu.
What do you think about creating an international highway system that connects the nations on the IDU map? What I have in mind is something like the RL E-road network, or at least an equivalent of the Trans-Canada Highway.
Do you think that is feasible? Would you participate? Can you suggest some routes?
Hello, IDU Nations.
I have visited your region before, almost always to request aid on a UN Proposal. Yet again, I come to you for that same reason.
Some of the older members of the UN may remember my previous attempt at this particular proposal, Olympic Games. The idea caught tremendous support, reaching quorum unusually quickly, but then died in flames at the hands of the moderators, who once again made up rules as they went, declaring that resolutions could not affect events on the NS Forums.
Due to the massive support this did recieve both pre- and post-death, I am reviving this idea in a more legal format. Please, I ask you to review this draft, and offer any suggestions you may have. I hope to submit this soon, hopefully with the approval of the mod who ended this proposal's life those several months ago...
Quote: THE NATIONSTATES UNITED NATIONS, in order to increase international well-being and athletic competition, shall hereby resolve in the creation of a semi-annual Olympic Games.
The Olympic Games (hereinafter referred to as "Games") shall be held every two years, alternating between Summer and Winter Games in such a way that two consecutive Games of the same season are spaced four years apart. Each Summer and Winter Games shall comprise of events representative of those seasons. In each, the sports shall be officiated according to the rules laid down by their respective international organizations.
The Games shall be hosted each year in a location that has not previously held the Games within the past four years. The Games shall be open to athletes from any UN Member Nation.
The winning competitor(s) of each event shall be awarded with a Gold Medal, bearing a design representative of both the ideals of the Games and the heritage of the location in which the Games are hosted. The second place competitor(s) shall be awarded a Silver Medal of the same design, an the third place competitor(s) shall be awarded a Bronze Medal of the same design. Each medal design shall be unique to that Games.
These Games are to promote international well-being and sportsmanship. Before competing, athletes are to swear by this creed:
"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have fought well."
Any athlete found cheating, either by violating the rules or by use of performance-enhancing substances, shall be disqualified and stripped of their earned medals and any set records. Any athlete found missing any required drug testing must take another, or be disqualified.
To oversee the organization of these Games, the NSUN shall mandate the creation of an International Olympic Committee, whose duties shall include, but may not be limited to:
- Choosing the host location
- Choosing the medal design
- Choosing events to be played
- Organizing registration and qualification procedures
- Ensuring the fair and proper administration of these events
- Ensuring that all athletes maintain their creed and adhere to the rules of the Games at all times
- Providing adequate competition facilities, housing, security, transportation, training facilities, and neccessary anemities for the athletes participating, as well as their coaches and staff.
These Games shall be funded as needed by willful donations by the host location and participating nations.
Text in bold has been added according to suggestions below or elsewhere.
A group of bearded militiamen have recently declared rural Pinkeba a sovereign and independent nation! Yuunli's talk radio pundits demand immediate government action.
The Debate
1. "Gov'mint's not workin' fo' folks 'round here," says Faith Love, a turnip farmer, "We have ourselves a guar-un-teed right to form a gov'mint that works for us. We don't want any confrontation, now, we just want to shake hands and let ya'll get along with yer business while we get along with ours."
2. "I can't believe this!" shouts General Bill Sherman. "This is tantamount to treason! Our political system would collapse if whole territories were allowed to leave at any time. It would be chaos! I propose that you let me take care of the problem...permanently."
3. "Perhaps we can reach a suitable middle ground," says an elderly gentleman resting on a park bench, "If we were to bring government close to the people, and allow them to have a modicum of self-determination, perhaps they wouldn't feel the need to cede. Let's give the local governments more power."
4. "Our last caller made a really good point," says talk radio host Pete Jefferson, "These decent, hard working citizens are clearly being brainwashed by Yuunli Public Radio's prattle. I don't want my tax dollars supporting their agenda. Therefore, the answer is clear: dismantle Yuunli Public Radio."
Following the Constitution of the Republic, any part of the country may secede if this is supported by a strong majority in a referendum. This is the case in the province of Pinkeba (called B?ng?whe in the local dialect).
Thus the Republic of Yuunli has only 16 provinces now, and the Autonomous Community of Chirachi (the continental part of Yuunli) now has 5 neighbors: the Free Land of B?ng?whe, the Interstellar Federation of DataGenesis, the People's Republic of Flankia, the Democratic Federation of Grosseschnauzer, and the Gemeinde of Sober Thought.
N?gus ?nai (Makuz Imai) of the Conservative Party of Yuunli, the former Chairman of the Executive Council of the province, becomes B?ng?whe's first President.
B?ng?whe's new official language is the local dialect of Poirih, which they call Baar?. They decide to keep the Yuunli Dollar as its national currency?at least as long as they don't want a currency of their own?, and to continue participating in the Yuunli Triball Major League. I don't know what happens to the planned freeways through the Tiafn/D?efn Mountains, though...
Repeal "Protection of Dolphins Act"
A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution
Category: Repeal
Resolution: #106
Proposed by: Omigodtheykilledkenny
Description: UN Resolution #106: Protection of Dolphins Act (Category: Environmental; Industry Affected: All Businesses) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.
Argument: WHEREAS, the U.N. Protection of Dolphins Act constitutes an encroachment on national sovereignty, in that it claims jurisdiction over international waters -? restricting the rights of nations who have a presence in said waters, violating treaties and trade pacts between nations respecting said waters, and placing special restrictions on any future such treaties; and
WHEREAS, many member states' economies are heavily reliant on fishing and related industries, and this act severely damages their national economies; and
WHEREAS, it is decidedly outside the jurisdiction of the United Nations to place such precise restrictions on international trade and commerce; and
WHEREAS, dolphins are not an endangered species requiring special protection; and
WHEREAS, the sale and consumption of dolphin meat is prevalent in many cultures, and the Protection of Dolphins Act is culturally insensitive in that regard; and
WHEREAS, the Protection of Dolphins Act does little to advance the central purpose of the United Nations, namely, the promotion of human rights; and
WHEREAS, the provision in the Protection of Dolphins Act, calling specifically for the prevention of "dolphin abuse, in any way that (member states) see fit, provided that no dolphin shall ever be preferred over human lives," is insufficient for the protection of human lives and livelihood:
1. THE U.N. PROTECTION OF DOLPHINS ACT IS HEREBY REPEALED.
