Where are we all?

I'm just curious, I was just wondering where everyone is located in real life. I'm in Brisbane, Australia in case anyone wanted to know. Big Grin

Well, I'm always interested in such things Smile

I live in Germany; to be more exact, in a suburb of Munich.
I am, however, originally from (Lower) Austria, but have been living here for some 12 years.

The building of my department at university is at 49? 15' 26.5'' north, 7? 2' 41.5'' east. Click on the link to see a satellite picture.

That's in Saarbr?cken, the capital of Germany's smallest state, by the way.
I grew up in Stuttgart and near Saarlouis.

Okay, totally OOC, but where else to post?

Yuunli, I just looked at your unilang profile, and I must say... I totally envy you. You have 16 conlangs!? Apparently, you absolutely (insert a four letter word with an -ing suffix here) rule.
I got mere 2 1/2 languages so far... big sigh here...

Ah, good old brizzie (trip down memory lane). I worked at the Dept. of Natural Resources for a while, during my backpacking trip through Oz. I only remember Brisbane from working hard and before that being nearly broke, so hardly got to enjoy the city. The park along the river was a bit messy.

I live in Gouda, the famous cheese city in the Netherlands. Beautiful old city centre, dating back to the late Middle Ages.

My wife & I have two Keeshonds. As protectors of those two dogs, we know the long and politically charged history of the breed in the Netherlands.

It was just a bonus when I came upon the IDU as a region and several folks from the Netherlands had nations there.

The last question, it's Keeshond on this side of the pond as well. Full Dutch pronounciation of "Kayz-hund."

OFF TOPIC:
Those Google ads on the bottom of the page are scary. You talked about Dutch dogs, and there was an ad for "German shepherds and K9 training dogs" with a nazi-like flag that featured a dog head instead of a swastika, and the word "Kraftwerk" (power station).

EVEN FURTHER OFF TOPIC:
I didn't know English has a word "Schutzhund" ["SUtshUnt; shoots-hoont]. I guess that's the equivalent of the German word "Wachhund" ["vaxhUnt; vukh-hoont] (guard dog). Wink

Okay, thanks to you, I just noticed them... they are really, really, er... disturbing.
Although I know have the wish to listen to a certain German band Wink

Only that I don't have any of their songs, so I guess it's Rammstein

Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

I was raised in Hamilton and still visit there often (mainly for the family and friends, but also for my sister's computer. Rolleyes ), but officially reside in Toronto. Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to continue living there.

I also lived in the university town of Urbana in central Illinois, but not as a student. That was for a couple of summer months for several years in the mid-1980s. I visited a friend I made there a couple of times in the 1990s after she moved to yet another university town and state capital in Madison, Wisconsin.

I make an annual visit to Germany to see my brother and his kids, and before he was a father I saw him in several of the German cities he lived in. Baranxtu, you might find it funny that he lived in Burgthan while he was getting his doctorate and the Ludwig Maximillians Universitaet in Munich. And Yuunli, he's not too far away from you now in the Pott. Next time, he's got to move to Hamburg or Bremen since I haven't travelled to those parts yet.

The schnauzers are in the American midwest for the time being, even though we spent the twenty years before that in Atlanta. Hoping to be back in that area before too many more months pass.

I'm living in Fayetteville, Arkansas. That's in the American South or midwest, depending on how you draw the lines. (of course, I get FoxSports Southwest so who knows)

I'm originally from the Salt Lake - Utah area. We had the Olympics a few years ago and they held events almost literally in my old backyard. I only got to see the womens' biathalon though.

Cool thread!

I'm in Davis, California, which is the small village / town just outside of Sacramento (the Capital of California) and 1 hour by car from San Francisco and Oakland. My parents and brother live in Walnut Creek (just outside of Berkeley, CA) and my sister lives in San Francisco itself. So on many weekends, I'm down there instead of up here.

I grew up in Houston, Texas near the Johnson Space Center (part of the reason I became an engineer), but my family is actually from Chicago (dad's side) and Pittsburgh (mom's side). I was born in Pittsburgh and lived there for a few years and also lived in Wyoming too! But for all practical purposes, I'm a Californian now and don't see myself leaving the state (it could happen but I doubt it).

It is cool too see how varied we are!
