The teams have qualified, are flown into the people's republic of Groot Gouda, ready to kick some ball!

We have three groups of 4 nations. The numbers 1 and 2 are placed for the quarter finals automatically. The two best numbers 3 also qualify (based on points, then goals). After the group round it's the traditional knock-out system.

Group C plays in the Groot Gouda Arena in Gouda City and the Eastmeadow stadium.
(see the map for the provinces).
The Groot Gouda stadium has a capacity of 70.000 spectators, the Eastmeadow Football Arena 55.000, the others between 40.000 and 50.000.

Thursday: if necessary, a match between tying nations, in the Stadium Green Garden.

Second round (quarter final), Friday sep. 9:
(Groot Gouda Arena, Eastmeadow Football Arena, Lakeside Stadium, Stadium Green Garden)
1. Winner A vs Second nr 3 (not from A group)
2. Second B vs Winner C

3. Best nr 3 (not from B group) vs Winner B
4. Second C vs Second A

Semi-final, Sunday sep. 11 (Groot Gouda Arena and Eastmeadow Football Arena)
1. Winner 1 vs Winner 2
2. Winner 3 vs Winner 4

Final, wednesday sep 13 (Groot Gouda Arena)
Winner 1 vs Winner 2

I will use the benelux football tournament system, which determined the scores by ranking. You take the worldwide rankings of each nation, and strip the rankings so that both rankings have the same amount of numbers. (so if one is 134.946th, and the other 58.238th, you strip the 1 so both are 5 digits). Then, each digit is compared to the one of the other. The highest one gets a goal. If the scores draw, none gets a goal.

So, in our example:
34946 = 0 0 1 1 0 = 2
58238 = 1 1 0 0 1 = 3

so the final score is 2-3.

Points in the groups are as usual: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. Points determine ranking, if they draw the difference between scored and received goals, then the result of the match between the tying nations, then the most scored goals. If everything draws, decision matches will be held to determine who goes to the next round.

In the knock-out rounds, after a draw, the IDU ranking is used in the same way to determine the scores after extra time. If that draws too, a penalty round determines the winner. Both teams get 5 penalties. By comparing the reverse of the home team against the other team worldwide ranking the outcome is determined (equal = both score). In our example
49431 = 0 1 1 1 0 = 3
58238 = 1 0 0 1 1 = 3
Note that the ranking is reversed first, then truncated.

So 3-3 after penalties. After which I give up and the highest world-wide ranking (that is the lowest number!) determines the outcome. (think of it as the second round of penalties where the first time one team scores and the other doesn't, it ends).

The PRoGG will host the tournament to save on flying trips accoss the IDU. Hotels will be taken care of, and nations get full access to training facilities near the hotel and around the stadium where they'll play.

For each match, 1/4 of the tickets is reserved for the Groot Gouda citizens, and 3/8 each for the national teams.

This thread is for the associated chat, and for showing your national colours! Smile

The winner gets a beautiful silver cup, engraved with the IDU scales and with an acorn on the lid.

The officiall mascot of the IDU Football Championships is Mr. Pisang: :pisang:

Yes, I think you would have. Go losing teams! Wink

The IDU Football Championships - Malabra - 09-05-2005

That's what I thought. Looks like you need to fix that Groot Gouda. Wink

Darn I keep loosing my games by a point! Sad

The IDU Football Championships - Adam Island - 09-05-2005

Hey, Adam Island is the only nation I noticed from the IDU that has signed up for the so far... just a reminder because spots are filling up.next World Cup

You're right, it's corrected.

I'm going to write a little script that can process the scores automatically Smile

(already got one to save the rankings of the participating teams, so if I can't check myself it's still saved)

The IDU Football Championships - Grosseschnauzer - 09-05-2005

Groot you also posted the results of the first round differently here than on the CHQ.....and from what I saw posted above, the version here would seem correct. You wouldn't want a pack of Edie Ratters snapping at you now, would you?

The IDU Football Championships - Mikitivity - 09-05-2005

Smile

It was a close match and a good game.

The IDU Football Championships - Groot Gouda - 09-05-2005

The version here is always correct, because I can edit this one.

It's a lot of numbers, so I do make mistakes, unfortunately. Always check yourself first! I'm busy automating the procedure so they'll get less, but it takes some time (and I want to do it neatly so other people can use it too, it's a simple PHP script).

Edit: http://www.klijmij.net/~michel/IDU/nationstatesfootball/ to check the match result beforehand!

The IDU Football Championships - Keeslandia - 09-05-2005

The Blustering Boyzzz of Keeslandia are pumped with that winning goal in the 3rd minute of extra time (2nd half) today!

The IDU Football Championships - Groot Gouda - 09-06-2005

:pisang:

Program for Wednesday sep 7:
Mikitivity - Malabra (Lakeside Stadium)
Antrium - Keeslandia (Olympic Stadium)

Lloegr-Cymru - Grosseschnauzer (Green Garden)
Adam Island - DataGenesis (Football Factory)

Isles of Koster - Lawtonia (Eastmeadow)
Wondervolle - Groot Gouda (Groot Gouda)

The IDU Football Championships - DataGenesis - 09-06-2005

The Federation supremely looks forward to playing our islander friends in the next round!

The commentators in DataGenesis are rating Adam Island much higher than their second place in the group.

One commentator in DataGenian Friday Football Show - Live was quoted last night as saying (before being censored for throwing a pie at an offical later in the program) that the AIslanders, will perform well, because the DataGenians have the disadvantage of not having trained at sea level, where the Football Factory, the location of the game is to be played.

The match promises to be a good one, and since DataGenian and AIslander supporters have little history with each other, this event even promises to be a clean one, unlike the roudy crowds present at the recent matches between LL-C and Grosseschnauser, both close neighbours of DataGenesis.

The IDU Football Championships - DataGenesis - 09-06-2005

Does the winner get to host the tournament next year? Tongue

I think we should start a cricket or tennis tournament too!

The IDU Football Championships - DataGenesis - 09-07-2005

Hi, GG, in your first post you said that the leading numberwould be dropped if the nations had different amounts of numbers in their rankings.

From the last round it looks as if you have left them in? Or does equal scores count for a goal for each?

eg:

Adam Island - Lloegr-Cymru (Football Factory)
57,123 - 1 0 0 0 0
07,974 - 0 0 1 1 1
1-3

Seems like the leading number has been added rather than taken off. Wink
