The Laeralian People's Party (French: Parti Populaire Laeralien; Mandarin: 絲綢國人民黨) is a Laeralian conservative political party. The largest and most powerful member of the right-wing "blue bloc", the People's Party is currently the largest party in each chamber of the Laeralian National Assembly, and the largest opposition party.
Founded in a socially-conservative cultural backlash to the Meihua Movement of the 1980s, the People's Party presided over a period of economic growth during the 1980s. Among the first parties since the Social Democratic Party to hold significant cross-racial appeal, the People's Party unifies Arrivée social conservatives with Rén Moralists, as well as members of the business community, pensioners, and veterans.
The Laeralian People's Party languished in opposition since the 2010 elections which brought Nicholas Brennan and the Progressive Party of Laeral to power, yet in the 2018 federal election became the largest party in both houses of the National Assembly. Nevertheless, the LPP was excluded from the eventual coalition deal which brought the New Democrats' Nicolas Martin to power as Prime Minister.
