Vehicle Registration Plates in Slokais
Slokais Islands Vehicle Registration Plates are issued by the Ministry of Transportation’s Registration Department (MOTRD) and consist of an eight-digit code, the first two letters corresponding to the specific province of the vehicle owners' registration, followed by an additional letter designation based on either vehicle type or location, followed by a 5-digit number.
Design Standards[edit | edit source]
The modern system was launched in 2017, formalizing rules across provinces and expanding the code from seven to eight digits. Additionally, post-2017 includes a unique sticker in the top right of all VRPs, designed to prevent fraud; the designs typically feature the flag of the province of registration but may also include a variety of charity or incentive designs for a small fee upon the driver. Electric vehicles also include a speciality “EV” marker in the top-left corner of the plate. Plates consist of a white base for personal vehicles, red for government vehicles and green for commercial vehicles.
Before 2017, VRP designs were not standardized nationwide, with only sizing and a 4-digit number. Provincial MOT’s had authority to designate any three-digit code in any order; for example, Ambonar included regent codes such as “A-PZ” and “A-VP”, despite regents only being historical regions and not government entities since the 1930s. Today, additional designations are either “C” for commercial vehicles, “P” for private vehicles, “G” for government vehicles, or “M” for military vehicles. For province-specific designations, they are often used as a visual cue for traffic officials or police officers to give these vehicles priority due to the nature of the business. Critics have argued the additional designation allows for corruption and special treatment for certain people and their vehicles, while proponents argue these are not required designations and are necessary considering the importance of travel for people such as MSL’s in New Liverpool or Tribal Affairs officials in remote indigenous communities, where their service is needed.
