History[edit | edit source]

West Xiang's original inhabitants are the Ibaloi people in the mountains and the Bequguo people along the coast. West Xiang was settled by Minjian settlers in the year 1150, in a famous case they were accepted by locals who supported the struggling colonists after a flood destroyed their settlement. In the end, the Bequguo were forced into the mountains, although they continued to attack Minjian temples through the centuries. In 1650, Costeno established tobacco plantations along the Northern Coast, briefly existing peacefully with the Pindai State. War soon broke out during the 1720s with native groups siding with Costenian forces.

Geography[edit | edit source]

West Xiang can be divided into the coastal region and the upland district, the coastal region which reaches from the Muangou River in the north to the Terganu Cape in the south. This region accounts for 65% of the population despite only accounting for a little above a third of the provinces total land area. The coastal region is characterized by flat plains subdivided into faming plots by various land acts. The upland district which includes the Guanshen and Lian Ge ranges is known for it's steep hills and narrow valleys popular for whitewater rafting and other adventure sports. In the wintertime, Guanshen Town is known for it's winter festival and ski resorts. It's in this region that the province's major river's begin with Mt Nuangui being the highest peak at 2,540 meters.

Economy[edit | edit source]

West Xiang's economy is traditionally dependent on rice and grain production with terraced paddy fields being largely used. However in recent year's cheap land has driven technical and industrial growth in San Lucas and Benin City. This has led to internal migration to both city's with a large difference in income and quality of life between rural and urban areas. Estoria, the largest provider of private health insurance and one of largest pharmaceutical companies is located in the Canal Special Economic District of Benin. San Lucas meanwhile houses the headquarters of Nintao, a large food and produce company.
