The Secretary of State for Energy, Renewables, and Natural Resources, also known as the Secretary for Energy or Energy Secretary, is the head of the Sanctarian Department of Energy, Renewables, and Natural Resources, which is tasked with domestic energy production, energy conservation, and Sanctaria's nuclear programme.

The current Secretary for Energy is Topher Jarrett. He was appointed to the post on 14 December 2022.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The Secretary for Energy is a senior advisor to the Chancellor on matters relating to energy, forests, minerals and metals, natural resources, as well as the nation's nuclear programme. Examples of areas that come under the purview of the Energy Secretary include energy consumption and conservation, energy production, mining and exploration, and forestry matters.

The Department of Energy, Renewables, and Natural Resources was created on 01 February 2018. Its functions were transferred from other government departments, such as the then Department of Land Affairs, as well as some now defunct government agencies.

Duties[edit | edit source]

Duties of the Energy Secretary include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversight and management of the nation's nuclear programme, including the Sanctarian Nuclear Agency, nuclear reactor safety, and radioactive waste disposal.
  • Development and implementation of policies that help support the development of renewable and clean energy.
  • Supervision of the nation's electrical grid.
  • Responsibility for the Sanctarian Forestry Service, which promotes sustainable development of forests within the country.
  • Regulation and oversight of oil and gas operations.
  • Management of processes that set and collect domestic tariffs and taxes relating to the department, such as water rates.
