The Green Party of Sanctaria, often referred to as simply The Greens, is a green, progressive, left-wing political party in Sanctaria.
The party's ideology combines environmentalism with left-wing economic policies, including well-funded public services. It also takes a progressive approach to social policies such as civil liberties, animal rights, LGBT rights, and drug policy reform. The party also believes strongly in nonviolence, basic income, a living wage, and democratic participation.
It has been led by Josephine Chari-Jones since 2010. The party participates federally, where it has 41 MPs and 6 Senators; the party also participates in all 3 of the currently established state governments.
History[edit | edit source]
Ideology[edit | edit source]
The Green Party of Sanctaria follows the ideals of green politics, which are based on the Four Pillars, namely ecological wisdom, social justice, grassroots democracy and non-violence.
The Ten Key Values, which expand upon the Four Pillars, are as follows:
- Grassroots democracy
- Social justice and equal opportunity
- Ecological wisdom
- Non-violence
- Decentralization
- Community-based economics and economic justice
- Feminism and gender equality
- Respect for diversity
- Personal and global responsibility
- Future focus and sustainability
The Green Party does not accept donations from corporations, tax-exempt organizations, or soft money. The party's platforms and rhetoric harshly criticise corporate influence and control over government, media and society at large.
Political positions[edit | edit source]
Energy and nuclear power[edit | edit source]
From the inception of the party, they have been concerned with the immediate halt of construction or operation of all nuclear power stations within Sanctaria. As an alternative, they promote a shift to alternative energy and a comprehensive program of energy conservation.
Environment and climate-change[edit | edit source]
A central idea of green politics is sustainable development. In particular, that economic, energy and transport policy claims should be developed giving considerable deference environmental considerations. The Greens acknowledge the natural environment as a high priority, and some members believe that animal protection should be enshrined as a national objective in constitutional law. They believe an effective environmental policy would be based on a common environmental code, with the urgent integration of a climate change bill.
Climate change is at the center of all of the Greens' policy considerations. This includes environmental policy, and safety and social aspects.
