Economic Focus is a centre-right political party in Zongongia led by Ivan Kristensen. The party is currently in government within Zongongia, holding 249 out of 450 seats in the Parliament of Zongongia. Economic Focus is the largest political party in Zongongia following the 2019 election. The party is focused on economic liberalism and free-market economics, while maintaining a minimal social security net. On social issues, the party is usually semi-liberal, with the party giving representatives free votes on a number of issues, including most LGBT votes.
History[edit | edit source]
Economic Focus was founded in 1927, during a time when most Zongongian parties were focused on disputes around social and religious issues in the country. The party was founded by a group of businessmen and supporters who wished to shift the debate in Parliament towards economic issues and improving the country's economy rather than "repeating debates on religious involvement in politics for an eternity". The party maintains a primarily economic-policy platform to this day, with social issues taking a backseat, and members differing quite radically on some social issues.
Policies[edit | edit source]
Economic Focus stands for the liberalisation of the economy, including tax cuts, reduced barriers to founding a business, and reduced barriers to international trade. Under the Economic Focus government led by Ivan Kristensen, Zongongia has gradually become less isolationist, participating more frequently on the international stage, including joining the League of IDU Nations. Trade deals with nations such as Haesan have also been more common under the Kristensen government.
On social issues, Economic Focus can differ radically, with some members being devout Zongongists who support policies based on their religion; to others who wish to implement very socially liberal policies alongside those which are economically liberal; such as equal marriage (in Zongongia, currently same-sex couples can form a civil partnership, but are not allowed to marry; though foreign same-sex marriages are usually recognised).
