Ivan Kristensen (born July 11, 1971) is the current Prime Minister of Zongongia and the leader of the centre-right political party Economic Focus. He has been a Member of Parliament for Enhörningsstad South since 2001. He has retained generally favourable opinion ratings throughout his time in office.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Kristensen was born in 1971 in the village of Flodkulle, five miles south of the city of Enhörningsstad. His father was a farmer, while his mother was a rock-gatherer; a minor role within the clergy of Zongongism, whose job it is to assist those coming of age in religious rites associated with entering adulthood. Kristensen was educated in the local temple school, before choosing to attend Rockvale University on the other side of the country to study Public Policy, where he studied for five years.

Early career[edit | edit source]

After graduation in 1993, Kristensen worked for a period of time in the public relations department of the Ministry of Business; working as part of a project to improve the economy in eastern Zongongia by promoting entrepreneurship and small business. He remained in the role until 2001 when he first ran for Parliament in Enhörningsstad South, beating the incumbent Social Labour Party candidate in a surprising victory.

He quickly rose through the ranks of Economic Focus, becoming the Shadow Minister for Business in 2004; followed by Shadow Secretary of the Treasury in 2010. He was elected leader of the party in 2013 after the party's defeat in the 2013 general election. In the 2017 election, the party was victorious and Kristensen became Prime Minister.

As Prime Minister[edit | edit source]

Following his election as Prime Minister, Kristensen immediately began promoting liberalising policies including lessening restrictions on foreign trade, removing numerous regulations for private business, and removing the necessity of private commercial premises to display religious symbology. In 2019, he began to increase Zongongia's presence on the international stage; where the country had historically been somewhat isolationist. The development of Rockrose Spaceport was among his major achievements.

Kristensen has been met with favourable approval ratings throughout his time as Prime Minister from members of the public; however he is distinctly unpopular with the clergy, who have accused him of neglecting Zongongia's traditions and religious background. In 2023, his ratings began to decline somewhat following a number of odd incidents involving the royal family.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Kristensen married Jasmin Pallesen, a schoolteacher, in 1997, and they have three children together born in 1999, 2002 and 2004.
