Ulinaria (Lauchenoirian Province)
Ulinaria is a province of Lauchenoiria. An area similar to the present-day province was initially established as a colony of Valahandia in 1417 out of territory formerly belonging to Yervia. In 1922, the territory became one of the eight provinces of the Federation of Lauchenoiria. The province contains one city, Elopolis and a number of other settlements ranging from large towns to small villages. Ulinaria is responsible for the majority of agricultural output in Lauchenoiria, and is still comprised primarily of rural agricultural land.
History[edit | edit source]
In 1417, Valahandian explorers landed in what was then Western Yervia. Following numerous battles with forces from Yervia, the defenders were forced back over the Nariavan Mountains which stretch north-south between the two major rivers of Lauchenoiria. In the western territory, the Valahandians established the Royal Colony of Ulinaria.
In 2018, First Minister of Ulinaria Victoria Juarez joined the side of the Lauchenoirian Resistance during the Second Lauchenoirian Civil War. She was later convicted of war crimes following the mistreatment of at least one prisoner of war.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Ulinarian culture involves elements inherited from both colonial powers and their neighbours. The province has many farm-based traditions, including annual barn dances in most villages; and tends to host large harvest festivals.
Politics[edit | edit source]
Politics in Ulinaria used to be dominated by the Liberal Party of Lauchenoiria, prior to the Second Lauchenoirian Civil War. However, in the 2023 Provincial Elections, the Liberals were wiped entirely off the electoral map[1]. This was the worst result for the Liberal Party in Ulinaria since the legalisation of pro-capitalist political parties in 1993. In national-level elections, Ulinarians are more likely to vote Liberal, but it is believed that due to memories of Juarez’s time as leader of the province, the Liberals have been abandoned locally in favour of the Left Alliance and Greens, with a considerable Conservative minority.
