Etymology
History
Neria is the historical home of Islam, which has played a large role in Nerian history. The continent also suffered widely from colonialism in the past, the legacy of which continues to this day. A number of different empires have historically held colonies in Neria across many centuries, though the vast majority of Nerian nations are independent in the present day.
Geology and Geography
Climate
The climate of Neria ranges from tropical to subarctic on its highest peaks. Its northern quarter is primarily arid, while its central and southern areas contain both savanna plains and dense jungle (rainforest) regions. In between, there is a convergence, where vegetation patterns such as sahel and steppe dominate.
Fauna
Neria boasts one of the world's largest combination of density and "range of freedom" of wild animal populations and diversity, with wild populations of large carnivores (such as lions, hyenas, and cheetahs) and herbivores (such as buffalo, elephants, camels, and giraffes) ranging freely on primarily open non-private plains. It is also home to a variety of "jungle" animals including snakes and primates and aquatic life such as crocodiles and amphibians. In addition, Neria has the largest number of megafauna species.

Languages
In the north-east of the continent, the primary language of most nations is either variants of Turkish or Persian, alongside large Arabic-speaking groups. Persian is the primary language of both Lehvant and Zargothrax; while Arabic is used heavily in Northern Zargothrax, parts of Serriel and Kolda. The Iskirami language is also often used both in Iskiram and nearby. In the south of the continent there is also Greek-speaking Yesteria and English-speaking Salad Land. The use of French as a legacy of colonialism is also common in a number of countries, including Lehvant and Kolda.
Religions
Neria is the origin of Islam in the IDU, which remains the primary religion of numerous Nerian nations, including Serriel, Lehvant, Teyè, Kolda and Tsiba. Historically, the religion was spread from Neria to other nations across the IDU, especially to nations in Eastern Hesperida such as Mallacaland. Many Muslims across the IDU can trace their origins back to the Nerian continent.
Other religions which originated in Neria in the IDU include Zoroastrianism, which has numerous followers in Zargothrax and Samara; as well as a sizeable Christian minority in the continent and a number of smaller, indigenous religions in countries such as the Nuiqsut Confederation and Yesteria.
Populace
Neria is an ethnically-diverse continent, with considerable cultural differences between the North and South of the continent.

Sports
A number of Nerian countries participate in international football tournaments via the Confederation of Nerian Football Associations, of which eight nations are presently members. Many Nerian nations also participate in the IDU Olympics.
