The tournament consisted of sixteen national teams initially placed in a group format of four groups consisting of four teams each. At an estimated cost of ₳13.34 billion, the 2019 IDUFC was one of the most expensive tournaments held<ref>https://idugov.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1998&pid=21083#pid21083</ref>. 31 matches were played in eight venues across 5 cities. In the final, Gnejs played Assamland on the 20th of July, 2020, at the Aunistria Arena, winning 2-0 through a brace from Jack Wiijk, claiming their second consecutive title. Jack Wiijk was voted the tournament's best player subsequently clinching the Golden Ball Award, as well as winning the Golden Boot Award by scoring the most amount of goals in the entire tournament, propelling Gnejs to their win. Kjetil Åkervik of Gnejs won the Golden Glove Award for displaying the best goalkeeping performances during the whole tournament. The 2022 IDU Football Championship was hosted between August 22, 2022<ref>https://idugov.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2361&pid=22724#pid22724</ref> and October 13, 2022 in [[Libertas Omnium Maximus]] across venues in four cities: [[Litudinem]], [[Iustitia City]], [[Lumeniola]], and [[Perra]]. Remarkably, despite two consecutive prior wins of the championship, [[Gnejs]] did not qualify for participation in the 2022 tournament. Due to an extreme late August heatwave which swept across the nation, with temperatures exceeding 34 °C (93 °F), a number of group stage matches were postponed to early September. None were cancelled. For the first time in IDUFC history, a third place consolation match was held between Laeral and Greater Acadia, with Laeral winning third place. Lauchenoiria defeated Xiomera in the final match, winning the tournament on October 13, 2022. | |||

The IDU Football Championship, also known as the IDUFC, is the International Democratic Union's largest and most prestigious association football competition, currently organized by AFFIDU, the sport's global governing body. Teams from all over the region come together to compete in a football tournament to decide the best national team in the region. The winning team is awarded a silver cup engraved with the IDU scales and acorn iconography. The competition's current reigning champions are Lauchenoiria, who won the title in 2022. There have been five contested championships between two series since the tournament was first held in 2005. Championships are generally held every two years.
Scoring[edit | edit source]
Teams receive 3 points for winning a game, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for losing. Points determine a team's rank. In case of a tie, their rank is decided first by the difference between scored and received goals, second by the result of the match between the tying nations, and third by the most scored goals. If they are still completely equal, a decision match is held.

Final Round[edit | edit source]
The final round of the 2005 IDU Football Championship was held at Groot Gouda Football Stadium on September 14th.
The final results were: Adam Island 2, Isles of Koster 3.
An excerpt from the official results statement said: "In an incredible match in the Groot Gouda Stadium, overlooked by the leaders of various IDU nations and 70.000 spectators, football of the highest level was displayed. The two teams didn't sit back and wait, but fought for every inch of the field. The result was a game that could go either way, and many were already preparing for extra time. Adam Island had opened the score in the first half, soon followed by Isles of Koster's equalizer. In between, many chances were created but not transformed into goals.
The second half saw the same amount of action, leaving many people on the edge of their seats and both nations nervous about the ending. Again, Adam Island took the lead, which they managed to hold for a long time. in the 80th minute however, Isles of Koster scored and brought both teams back on 2-2. Most people thought it would stay this way, until deep in the added time, the winning goal was scored by Isles of Koster. By the time the match was resumed, the playing time was over and Isles of Koster could come up the stage and collect the cup from president Michel of Groot Gouda."

2019 IDU Football Championship[edit | edit source]

The 2019 IDU Football Championship was held from June 14th 2020 to July 20th 2020[2] in Legionas[3] after it was awarded hosting rights. The tournament consisted of sixteen national teams initially placed in a group format of four groups consisting of four teams each. At an estimated cost of ₳13.34 billion, the 2019 IDUFC was one of the most expensive tournaments held[4]. It is estimated that around 3.5 million fans from around the world travelled to Legionas during the entire duration of the tournament, with around 4 billion viewers tuning in globally.

2022 IDU Football Championship[edit | edit source]
See main page: 2022 IDU Football Championship
The 2022 IDU Football Championship was hosted between August 22, 2022[5] and October 13, 2022 in Libertas Omnium Maximus across venues in four cities: Litudinem, Iustitia City, Lumeniola, and Perra. Remarkably, despite two consecutive prior wins of the championship, Gnejs did not qualify for participation in the 2022 tournament.
