Lumeniola is the colloquial name for the Maximusian metropolitan area comprising the cities of East Lumeniola (in Hampton), West Lumeniola (in Elizabeth), and a number of independently administered suburban communes. The city is bifurcated by the Boenecca River and is considered by many the nation's "cultural capital," home to the Maximusian film and music industries.
History[edit | edit source]
Economy and Politics[edit | edit source]
Although partially treated as a single municipality, with some shared metropolitan services including a combined constabulary (United Lumeniolan Constabulary Service), transit (LumenRail) and fire authority (Metropolitan Fire and Rescue), the city uniquely straddles two provinces, and has two mayors and city councils as a result. Zoning and easements are handled separately by each city administration's board of commissioners, leading to vastly different skylines. While West Lumeniola is densely populated, with office and residential high-rises along the riverfront and downtown (pictured), East Lumeniola is sprawling, with strictly enforced height restrictions.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
West Lumeniola is the larger of the two cities, more densely populated and, on the whole, poorer, though the city is also home to a number of the largest movie studios in the nation. Accentuating this wealth disparity, Whitehorse, a suburban neighborhood in West Lumeniola, is among the wealthiest councils (per capita) in the nation, home to movie stars, pop singers, and famous athletes. The West Lumeniola waterfront also houses a number of famous jazz clubs, restaurants, and nightclubs, contributing to the city's reputation as a "city of lights" at night.
