The Reform Party is a political party in Kerlile formed in May 2019, which supports reform of the totalitarian regime in Kerlile. The party was the second legal party in Kerlile, after the Women's Party of Kerlile; however since May 2023 a number of other parties have been legalised in the country.
History[edit | edit source]
The Reform Party was first legalised in 2019 after the signing of the Haven Accords to end the Second Lauchenoirian Civil War, when Kerlile was attempting to show the world that they were willing to cooperate with the international community and allow token freedoms. However, after the unexpected victory of Rebecca Arnott becoming President of Kerlile, the party has grown in numbers and support beyond expectations.
Policies[edit | edit source]
The party has five main goals in Kerlile:
1. Torture to be outlawed as a punishment, and Restricted Region facilities to be closed immediately.
2. Men to be allowed to pursue further education after the age of 16, and for employment restrictions on men to be greatly loosened.
3. An end to the emigration ban, and for Kerlians to be allowed to visit other countries as tourists.
4. The immediate end to unpaid labour in prisons and a new guarantee that all prisoners will be treated sufficiently well.
5. The release of so-called ‘political prisoners’ arrested for Class III anti-matriarchal activity (Class III offences are offences solely relating to speech and involving no additional action).
Ideology[edit | edit source]
Kerlian reformism seeks to reform the system of Gynarchy in Kerlile without an overnight revolution. The party takes the approach of gradual change including the granting of male rights piece by piece with an eventual goal of equality. The party does not advocate the abolition of the Council of Kerlile but rather the gradual transfer of more and more powers away from the Council to the Parliament of Kerlile with the end goal of the Council becoming a solely advisory body and the majority of decisions made by elected members of parliament.
The party believes that due to Kerlile's unique political system, seeking to change the system overnight could lead to catastrophe, and prefers to take each reform as its own unique goal. The party has been compared by some to those who advocate for the "next stage" mentioned in the Founders' Manifesto - but has been criticised for "lacking teeth".
Support[edit | edit source]
The party is supported by Councillors Rosemary Arnott, Jennifer Hale and Electra Georgiou as well as by current President Rebecca Arnott, who is the party's leader. She is the first President of Kerlile who is not a current member of the Women's Party.
