Only Daughters of the Council are permitted to attend.

The Maytown Academy for Girls is a school in Maytown, Kerlile, that caters to the families of the Council of Kerlile. Under the Education and Upbringing of Daughters of the Council Act (1956), future Councillors of Kerlile are required to attend the Maytown Academy for at least ten years before their ascension to the Council.

Although Daughters are only required to attend the Academy for ten years, it is common for many to remain there throughout their schooling. While most pupils start at age five, it is possible for three and four year olds to begin early. The Academy caters for pupils up to and including the age of eighteen.

Entrance requirements[edit | edit source]

Entry to the Academy is highly exclusive; to become a pupil, one must be descended from one of the Founders of Kerlile. Therefore, only members of nine families (previously ten, before the expulsion of Carmen Robinson from the Council) may attend the Academy. This leads to small class sizes, with some year groups comprised of between 0-2 pupils at certain times. Over 50% of current registered students are members of the Chiu family.

There are no academic entry requirements; those who are unable to pass examinations may be asked to repeat a year or are placed on a special education track within the Academy. The latter option is only known to have happened once in the history of the Academy.

Curriculum[edit | edit source]

Alongside standard academic subjects, the Academy also teaches those higher up in the Council lines of succession skills they may need should they become a future Councillor. The full curriculum for the Academy is not publicly known.

Standard academic subjects are taught according to a pupil's age group. This means that in theory, Daughters attending the Academy may take a break in their Academy training to attend a mainstream Kerlian school, as the curriculum for academic subjects should be identical. This includes subjects such as mathematics, English, sciences, and creative subjects such as art or drama. Notably, it does not include history.

Academy-only subjects are taught according to how many years the pupil has attended the Academy for, regardless of their age. A girl who begins at the age of three will be in Year 4 for these subjects at the age of six; while a girl who begins at six will be ten while in Year 4. These subjects include classes in governance, the ideology of Gynarchy, and history.
