Councillor Margaret Robinson (17 January 1887 - 3 December 1970), previously known as Princess Margrethe of Zongongia, was one of the Founding Mothers of Kerlile and the first Robinson member of the Council of Kerlile. She was born as the fourth daughter of King Aleksander II of Zongongia, but was stripped of her title as Princess for marrying an unknown foreign commoner when she was 20 years old. She later moved to Kerlile, becoming one of the founders, after the death of her husband following the birth of their daughter Dorothy Robinson.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Princess Margrethe of Zongongia was born on the 17th January 1887 as the seventh child, and fourth daughter, of King Aleksander II of Zongongia and Queen Beatrice. She was raised in the Royal Palace of Zongongia alongside her six elder and two younger siblings and educated by private tutors. At the age of eighteen, she began studying the religious texts of Zongongism, a common occupation for younger royal siblings.

Marriage and exile[edit | edit source]

At the age of 20, Margrethe met Olufemi Robinson, a foreign student of religious studies in Zongongia to study Zongongism. Margrethe fell in love and became determined to marry Olufemi. However, due to Olufemi's common status as well as his foreign heritage, this was disapproved of by the King and Queen. Olufemi's race was also likely a strong factor, as Zongongian royalty had married foreign nationals in the past. Margrethe was informed that she would be disowned if she married Olufemi, but proceeded regardless and they married in a quiet ceremony in the south of the country.

After it transpired that Margrethe had disobeyed her father and married Olufemi regardless, she was duly stripped of her title of Princess, disowned by her family, and sent into exile with her new husband. The newlyweds were, however, given a substantial monetary payment to discourage any further activity that would bring the Zongongian royal family into disrepute. The couple moved first to South Fleura and then onwards to Laeral where, changing the spelling of her name, Margaret became involved with feminist activism.

Founding of Kerlile[edit | edit source]

Margaret began attending meetings of the International Women's Congress while living in Laeral after her exile. She became determined to further the rights of women to make their own decisions due to her father's strict conduct; and was also active in groups seeking to improve race relations globally and locally. In 1917, she gave birth to her only daughter Dorothy Robinson, which furthered her drive to engage in feminist activism.

After the beginning of the North Fleuran Succession Crisis, 1923-24, Margaret was among the women invited by Edith Hart to move to the new state of Kerlile in order to found a "women's paradise". Since her husband had passed away in 1921 from heart problems, Margaret accepted and moved with Dorothy to the fledgling Kerlile.

On the Council[edit | edit source]

Margaret Robinson sat on the Council of Kerlile between the inaugural session in 1934 until her death in 1970. During this time, she became strongly invested in female-only rule, supporting some of the harshest measures passed by the Council. At the time of the Great War, Margaret repeatedly encouraged Kerlile to attack Zongongia and overthrow their monarchy.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Despite Margaret's support of the Matriarchy's new gynarchist state, her descendants have been less fanatical. Her granddaughter Joanne Robinson was murdered at the age of 44 for her actions in the Kerlian Coup Attempt, 1983; while her great-great-granddaughter Carmen Robinson was expelled from the Council in 2022.
