The Fae are otherworldly fairy creatures in Glannish mythology that are believed to be either mischievious or overtly malevolent. According to Glannish mythology, the fae live in a parallel plane of existence and can cross to Earth at will; usually to cause trouble. Disappearances are often domestically attributed to the fae in Glanainn, even in the present day. Among foreign nations, and atheists, however these disappearances are understood to often be attributed to the authorities of Opthelia, who are known to interfere in Glanainn even though it is nominally autonomous.

Origins[edit | edit source]

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Most fae are said to be "uncannily beautiful", according to the pivotal text Mythology of Glanainn: Fae and their Realm which discusses Glannish mythology in depth. However, they are not to be judged by their appearance, as underneath their beautiful exterior can lie "cruelty and evil". Fae are said to range from slightly mischievous but fairly benign all the way to unspeakably evil; with these malevolent versions playing a role equivalent to Christian demons in the local mythology. Many, but not all fae can fly; and there are said to be numerous types of fae, equivalent to the range of animal species in the mortal realm.

Types[edit | edit source]

A number of types of fae are alleged to live in the Fae Realm - the parallel plane of existence that fae originate from. These range from human-like fae who can blend in with mortal humans by casting a spell on their pointy ears, to shape-shifting fae that can change from human form to one resembling a domestic cat.

Fae Realm[edit | edit source]

The Fae Realm is the alleged parallel plane of existence from which the fae originate. In Glannish mythology, the Fae Realm exists alongside the Mortal Realm (i.e., Earth) and can be crossed over to from the mortal realm via magic portals. A portal may be stationary in a fixed location, or may be created by a powerful fae themselves. Time in the Fae Realm moves at a different and unpredictable pace, relative to time in the Mortal Realm. The size of the Fae Realm is disputed, with some sources claiming it is infinite, and others alleging it is merely identical in size to Glanainn itself.

The Fae Realm consists of two kingdoms that are eternally at war with each other. Fae may kidnap humans and take them to the Fae Realm for multiple purposes; including as soldiers, slaves, entertainment, lovers and on the request of the human themselves.
