The Knights of the New Dawn, alternatively known as Aurora Novo Militum, was a paramilitary secessionist fraternal organization that advocated for the independence of Bjeorg from Libertas Omnium Maximus throughout the second half of the 20th century. The group gained widespread notoriety in the late 1980s and early 1990s for their advocacy of violence against Maximusian federal government officials and their involvement in the 1991 Bjeorg Conflict. The organization was originally founded as a fraternal Bjeorgite independence advocacy group in 1952. ANM was officially classified as a terrorist organization in 1988 and disbanded following the end of the conflict in Bjeorg.

Political Positions[edit | edit source]
Aurora Novo Militum, above anything else, was dedicated to the establishment of a completely antonymous Bjeorg. Any economic or political positions held by the group, or members thereof, were secondary concerns. The official reasoning given for the superiority of an independent Bjeorg state to continued existence within the Maximusian federation stemmed from the notion of Bjeorgite social values and needs being sidelined by mainland Maximusian politicians and industrialists in the name of globalism and progress. At times, ANM criticized both finance capitalism and laissez faire economic policies for giving “tacit approval to moral degeneracy,” and gradually eroding the social framework of society. However, they were also equally critical of socialism and most leftist rhetoric, referring to democratic socialism as an “illogical, amoral, inefficient, and downright dangerous” ideology. The organization maintained that Bjeorg would be best served if it utilized a decentralized market economy with some government safeguards in place, including planned antitrust legislation (drafted in a 1978 issue of the organization’s publication, The Final Journal). In their own words, ANM socio-political ideology was rooted in a classical liberal understanding of human nature and a humanist worldview. The organization hoped that a representative democratic republic with universal suffrage would be established in the wake of Bjeorg’s split with Libertas Omnium Maximus. ANM denounced centralized authority and advocated for local governments to independently handle the affairs of their constituent communities, with the national-level government being primarily tasked with national defense and advancing the country’s foreign policy.
Membership[edit | edit source]
Membership fluctuated significantly over the organization's four decade lifespan, peaking at around 1,200 members in the months leading up to the 1991 conflict. In order to become a member, prospects generally needed to be nominated by a full-fledged member in good standing (known as a "brother"). They then underwent an informal interview before being welcomed into the organization or denied.
All prospective members were required to meet a number of prerequisites.
- Active, baptized member of the Iasgier Reformed Church.
- Male in good physical condition and of "fighting age" (generally ages 16 to 32, though older and younger members were admitted from time to time).
- Literate in English and Latin.
In addition, all members not born in Bjeorg were required to renounce their allegiance to the Maximusian state (or any other sovereign nation), as were any active or retired members of the Maximusian armed forces. Because of this provision, joining ANM was established in 1981 as legitimate grounds for dishonorable dismissal from the Maximusian military.

- Bombing of Flight 989 (July 6, 1991) - Aurora Novo Militum claimed to have been behind the bombing of Flight 989, which resulted in the death of Melissa Thornton, an attorney tasked with investigating the Knights, and a number of civilians.
