On the morning of July 30, 2018, Vasily Grigoryev, a communist domestic terrorist, planted a home-built pipe bomb in the undercarriage of Maximusian President Lucas Brown's limousine. It was unintentionally prematurely set off by Paul Madley, a Maximusian Presidential Guardsman and the designated driver of the limousine at 10:36 AM, killing him instantly. Brown, who was approaching the vehicle upon exiting the Grosseschnauzer Embassy when Grigoryev's bomb detonated, sustained first and second degree burns in addition to minor shrapnel lacerations from the blast. Two bystanders, both local journalists, also received minor lacerations. All three wounded were treated for their injuries at the nearby Pearson General Hospital and made full recoveries. Brown was released from the hospital later that day. In the days that followed, an international manhunt began for Grigoryev, who was at the time unidentified. Grigoryev successfully fled to Lauchenoiria and was granted asylum by the Chaher Government.
