New Liverpool is the largest capital city and federal district of Slokais Islands, with 7,230,189 residents[a]. New Liverpool is considered the cultural, economic, and political hub of Slokais and one of the largest cities in the Eastern Hesperian region. The city is located across the San Fernando River at the convergence with the Silverado River. Founded as a planned capital in 1822 to be the seat of government for The Dominion of Slokais Islands, New Liverpool grew into the largest city in Slokais with the city population spreading across the large district.

History[edit | edit source]

Due to it's natural flatness, the plain of Huandiao has been settled since pre-historic times. Some of the oldest settlements being along what is now the New Liverpool Canal. The first permeant structures being a wood and stone bridge, and several farm houses. Today, they lie below the National Museum, where they have reconstructed. These original residents where of the Prmyan-gah ethnic group who where organized into farming and rice based societies. Around 500 BCE, the first king of the Prmyan Kingdom visited the settlement which he named "Kran-ja-Grah" or "place of bountiful harvest". This was documented in the Book of Kings, a prominent text of the period.

New Liverpool was founded in 1822 to be the seat of government for the Dominion of Slokais Islands. A grid was laid out in 30 streets running east to west with the primary govermeant buildings built along National Blvd between 1st Street North and 1st Street South. By 1840 the city had swelled to over 85,000 people known mostly for producing cloth and dyes. New Liverpool grew even more once it became the capital of the new country of Slokais Islands. The Slokasian Legislature Building was constructed in 1905 joining the Presidential Palace in the Government Hill District of the city. In 1911, the New Liverpool Federal District was created including areas not part of the city of New Liverpool. During the Livingstone Era, the countryside became developed with the district being divided into wards. Southland was founded in 1932 as an independent city, although in 1936 the entire district became absorbed into New Liverpool. In 1948, New Liverpool City Airport was built on the western bank of the San Fernando River. New Liverpool became a hub for industrial goods during the 1950s as Costa area policies pushed for industrial expansion. In 1970, New Liverpool reached 2.5 million people. Since then the city has doubled in population due to internal migration as well as the growth of immigrant communities.

Geography[edit | edit source]

New Liverpool is located on the San Fernando River in Slokais Islands at the meeting point of the Silverado and San Fernando Rivers. New Liverpool is mainly situated on low plains, although the city is bordered to the west by the Silverado Mountains, and to the east by the San Fernando Mountains. New Liverpool is located in the Humid subtropical climate zone and experiences periods of heavy rains and flooding during certain periods of the year. The highest point in the city is Qizhongji Mountain at 2,878 feet located along the northern border of New Liverpool. The lowest point is Milton Pond at -12 feet below sea level, in a natural depression. The largest body of water entirely within New Liverpool is Lake Buena Vista located in Charlestown in the northeastern part of the city, the lake was created by damming the Hilton River.

Economy[edit | edit source]

New Liverpool is listed as an "economic hub" by the Ministry of Labor and is part of the San Fernando River Valley Economic Zone. Many of the largest companies have headquarters within New Liverpool such as Sun-Mart, Bank of Acadia, and Centrana Motors. In addition, there is a large workforce of federal employees who work in the many government ministries headquartered within the city. New Liverpool also has the most millionaires of any province with around 50,000, primarily living in northern communities of Xiang Valley and North Springs. Despite this, New Liverpool also has a high rate of poverty with 29% qualifying for federal assistance and an additional 15% classified as "near poverty". This gives New Liverpool the highest level of inequality of any province. Unemployment however is lower than the national average due to a large number of people being self-employed or working in a business with less than 15 employees often producing food or goods. Major industries within New Liverpool include automotive and electronic production, with parts being assembled by various companies. GTEX, the largest phone producer is also headquartered in the New Brighton Ward. Another large sector is business processing, especially for companies based in the region. Tourism is a major industry within New Liverpool and several sites within the city rank in the top #10 for the number of visitors nationwide. New Liverpool is also a major retail hub with several major malls being located in the Northrock and Midtown Wards.

Culture[edit | edit source]

New Liverpool is also considered the cultural capital of Slokais Islands. Some popular musical styles to originate in New Liverpool include S-Pop, Beat and Synth, and Slokasian Rap. This musical culture is a significant draw, with several major labels having studios within the city. The city also had the 2nd highest number of film productions per year with only South San Fernando having more. In addition, the fashion and design industries are active within New Liverpool, with several major firms being located in the West Bank neighborhood. New Liverpool is also home to several art museums, with the National Gallery of the Arts, The Museum of Traditional Art, and the Twickenham Museum.

Sports[edit | edit source]

Several sports teams also play in the city such as New Liverpool FC, Northrock United and Southland Athletic of the SPL. New Liverpool Ballclub and Northrock United of the Grand Drywall Ball League. As well as national sporting venues such as New Liverpool Stadium and R.B Aaron's Field. New Liverpool is also a major producer of talent across multiple sports, with numerous athletes being from New Liverpool.

New Liverpool has two airports located within the city John Santos International Airport and East Bank Airport. New Liverpool is also served by the New Liverpool Rapid Transit Authority as well as Slokasian Rail.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

Ethnicity[edit | edit source]

As the largest city in Slokais Islands, New Liverpool has a diverse population due to internal migration to the city. Mesitzos are the largest ethnicity as they account for 43.5% of the population. This is largely due to hundreds of year's of settlement and migration from nearby San Fernando and South San Fernando provinces. The Ren population in New Liverpool is 15.2%, with historical communities such as Kendiao and Tower Hill existing for centuries. Costenos where some of the first resident's of incorporated New Liverpool in the 1820's and have today settled in either prosperous or in legacy communities in the Midtown Ward, today they account for 12.1% of the population. Making up 9.1% of the population, the Kaijanese population in New Liverpool is the largest outside of the island, they have heavily concentrated in the Southland due to availability in housing during the 1970s and 80s and the industrial jobs available. Indigenous people have lived in New Liverpool for ten's of thousands of year's before the city's incorporation, and today make up 6.7% of the population with the historic community of Gadanga dating to around 400 BCE. Blancos make up 4.7%, mostly from internal migration although have settled in more suburban area's. Afro-Slokaisan's make up 4.0% of the population, most of those being immigrants from Kolda and Kabo Gesshan who have settled in working-class area's such as Cardillas and Rivers Ward.

Areas[edit | edit source]

New Liverpool has 55 Urban Wards, the main areas are downtown where many companies as well as much of the business, and urban parts of the city. North of that is Midtown where most government buildings are located along New Liverpool Creek. The area is home to many museums and agencies for the Slokasian Government as well as Capitol Circle Station. West of the creek is where the Presdential House and the Slokaisian Legislature are located—as well as the Old City and Hallan Hill. South of Downtown is Southland City, home to more working-class areas of the city as well as Capitol South Station. To the north of downtown is Northrock a more wealthy part of the city as well as Xinling Hills. Across the San Fernando River from downtown is Eastbank and the New Liverpool City Airport, this area is home to many office buildings.

Politics[edit | edit source]

New Liverpool has 74 seats in the Legislature, 40 Seats are given by first past the post while the other 34 are based on parties, districtwide total votes with 2.94% needed for one seat, this low bar means the many political parties have at least one seat, though the National Alliance has a strong hold on seats followed by the Centrist Party, some parties like the Slokasian Peoples Party and the Women's Party have there only seats here. The district also has a 55-member council based on ward elections, for these races the National Alliance-Green Pact does not apply meaning that many small parties do well, there is also a Mayor elected by whoever gets the most votes. Vincent Robbels was elected mayor with 47.5% of the vote in 2019. Although Robbeles remained unpopular and was replaced in the 2023 Election by independent candidate, Madeline Deocampo.
