Public holidays in Sanctaria

Public holidays in Sanctaria are a combination of both religious and secular events. The nation recognises and celebrates a wide range of holidays throughout the year, reflecting the cultural and historical diversity of its people. In addition to national, or federal, holidays, each state may also observe regional holidays, depending on local traditions and customs.

The majority of public holidays in Sanctaria are based on cultural and historical events. Some of the most important federal public holidays include Sanctaria Day, which celebrates the dissolution of the Papal States of Sanctaria and the independence of modern Sanctaria, and Memorial Day, which is a national day of memory to pay respects for friends and family who have died. Other public holidays include Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Good Friday.

The official calendar of all public holidays in Sanctaria, both federal and state, is maintained by the Chancellery and is followed by all public institutions, including schools, banks, and government offices. The federal government determines which days are recognized as federal public holidays, and this is set out in law in the Public Holidays Act 2020. Individual state governments may add additional public holidays for those living and working in their state, but all states must still observe federal public holidays.

Many Sanctarians use public holidays as an opportunity to spend time with their families and to participate in cultural events. Public transport may run on a reduced schedule, and many businesses may be closed for the day. Public holidays are also an important time for tourism, as many Sanctarians use the long weekends as an opportunity to travel domestically or internationally.
