Gun laws in the International Democratic Union

Gun laws regulate the possession of small firearms by individuals. Laws and policies on this issue vary by nation.

Caxcana

Eiria

People with certified gun safety training, a permit, and no violent criminal history may purchase handguns, and if a person has an extended permit for hunting, which is difficult to obtain, they may possess certain shotguns and rifles. All of these processes have extensive background checks and bureaucracy.

However, a surprisingly high number of Eirians have handgun permits, largely due to resistance veterans wanting to keep arms, just in case.

Huenya

In order to obtain a gun, Huenya requires a background check and a mental health evaluation. If an individual passes, they are permitted to purchase guns. Most Huenyans 18 and up are considered part of the national defense and have some kind of handgun and/or rifle.

Manauia

Manauia has a total ban on firearms, except from members of the military. Most civilian police officers are unarmed. Manauians use bows and other traditional weapons for hunting purposes.

Milintica

Nobody except the military or police may carry guns.

Xiomera

No one in Xiomera is allowed to own firearms, except for handguns for personal defense. Only the military and police are permitted anything more than a handgun. As well as Xiomeran PMCs.

Hesperida

Greater Acadia

You need to have a license to own and operate a firearm, and any purchase of a firearm must be from a licensed distributor and comes with a mandatory background check. There are certain types of weapons which are barred from civilian ownership, such as "machine guns", which is basically any weapon that is capable of full-auto firing (semi-auto and single-shot only), and some weapons require special "long-gun" licenses to own and operate, such as assault rifles. These weapons are also restricted from being used in certain areas, and some places may require you to keep them in on-site lockers at the gun range rather than your own private storage locker.

Grundhavn

In Grundhavn, all Land Defense Force personnel (army reservists/national guard) keep their service rifle at home in case they need to defend the nation. Service rifles are semi-automatic firearms. These are the only semi-automatic firearms permitted to be owned for private use in Grundhavn. LDF training is required of all men for one year once they turn 18. Automatic weapons are banned by law. Handguns and single-shot long guns are permitted to be bought for any reason pending completion of a gun safety training course and background check. Permits are "may issue" rather than "shall issue." There are no requirements for gun storage, but neither open nor concealed carrying is permitted.

Haesan

In Haesan, national service is compulsory for all citizens, and regardless of the assignment, basic firearms training is required. Haesanite citizens who have not completed their 12-months of service may not privately own a firearm. Foreigners or naturalized citizens must undergo a rigorous training program in order to purchase or use a firearm in any capacity. All who seek to purchase a firearm must undergo a safety demonstration and background check. Rates of gun ownership remain low as ammunition is heavily regulated and highly taxed. There is a notable volume of black market trade in firearms, in large part smuggled into Soeyan Province to support rebel factions.

Kerlile

In Kerlile, only women may own firearms. Due to compulsory national service in the military, the vast majority of women are trained in the use of firearms, and most women over the age of 18 own at least one gun. Men are not permitted to own firearms, nor are those under the age of 16.

Laeral

In Laeral, private ownership of a handgun or long-gun is legal with a license. The procedure for obtaining a license involves the completion of a firearm safety course, a criminal background check, and a preliminary mental health evaluation, while gun owners are required to meet with a mental health professional or local police officer every three months for an assessment of mental health in order to retain their license. Firearm and bullet sales are taxed to fund the firearm safety trainings and investigation of gun crimes. Trafficking in illegal guns, largely across the border with High Fells, remains a problem.

Lauchenoiria

Private gun ownership in Lauchenoiria is legal only with a license. Licenses will only be granted to those deemed to have a valid reason for needing a firearm. However, since the Second Lauchenoirian Civil War, the number of unregistered guns in the possession of civilians has grown greatly, and the law is currently only weakly enforced.

Libertas Omnium Maximus

Long guns, shotguns, handguns, and semi-automatic firearms are legal for civilians to own in Libertas Omnium Maximus following a background check. Persons with a violent criminal record or serious mental illness (such as schizophrenia) are generally prohibited from purchasing such weapons. Machine guns and certain models of semi-automatic shotgun are federally banned. Concealed and open carry are both legal in public spaces.

Slokais Islands

In Slokais Islands the right to private gun ownership has long been a key part of cultural standards, in 1975, there were attempts to remove handguns as a way of disarming militia groups from the Second Slokasian Civil War. However since then, some restrictions have been added. After 2011, training was required for all new gun owners and steps were introduced as a attempt to curb politcal violence. In recent years, with armed conflict in both Kaijan and Priceton Island, there have been attempts by some left-wing political leaders, however Joseph Chavez has said that he would not increase gun regulations.

Zongongia

In Zongongia, private gun ownership is legal with a license. In order to obtain a license, an individual must pass a gun safety exam, and all firearms must be registered in a database.

Liberalia

Mansilla

Mansilla has stringent gun laws and regulations. Mansillans apply for private gun ownership on a per-household basis, and the disqualification of any member of the household will prevent all members of the household from possessing firearms. Firearm ownership is offered exclusively to members of the Mansillan National Front and National Party of Mansilla, but the specific qualification criteria is unknown. A black market for firearms likely exists, but its trade volume is not known.

Trive

Weaponry is legally classified into a tier system, containing 5 tiers. As the tiers move up, there are more restrictions involved, which range from mandatory gun safety training to full registration with background checks and psychological evaluations. Private ownership of military surplus vehicles is also permitted if they are disarmed. The only fully illegal type of weapon in Trive are revolver rifles, due to security concerns by the Ministry of Defence. Convicted criminals are also restricted from owning firearms in Tier 2 and above for up to 10 years after their sentence is served.

Neria

Zargothrax

In Zargothrax, gun ownership is unregulated, however due to high social and economic inequality, in general only the nobility can afford to purchase firearms. Guns and other weaponry are heavily taxed to reduce availability to those outside of the upper class.

Sanctaria

Sanctarian citizens are only permitted to possess long guns such as rifles for hunting and sport shooting; no other firearm is permitted. The licensing procedure is lengthy: a shooting-range test must be passed with a "mark of at least 95%". A mental-health evaluation taking place at a hospital, and a thorough background check where one's family and friends are interviewed, are also part of the procedure. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate they have a secure location in which to store their firearms. Applicants who have a criminal record are denied a licence, and owners subsequently convicted of any offence are required to surrender their firearms. No more than three firearms are permitted to be in the possession of a household, not just an individual owner, at any one time, and licenses expires after eighteen months, after which the procedure must be repeated in full.

Firearms regulations are a federal competence; individual states are unable to deviate from federal laws. There can be no more than one gun shop per 7.5 million people - in practice this means the bigger states typically have around five gun shops, whereas the city states of Sanctus, Corpus, and Haven only have one or, in the case of Sanctus, two. When an owner of firearms passes away, their relatives must surrender their firearms.

Wosteaque

Almost every weapon, including destructive devices, can be bought in Wosteaque, but citizens need a reason, certified gun safety training, screening, and a mental health evaluation. This process takes as little as 1 month for a handgun, all the way up to 5-10 years for vehicle-based weaponry or certain explosive ordnance. The only weapons citizens can not own are weapons of mass destruction or weapons that have chemical, biological and radiological design.
