Alex Marwick (born 22nd August 1989) was President of Lauchenoiria from July 2019 until April 2020. During the Second Lauchenoirian Civil War, Marwick ran a popular pro-resistance radio station, and won the first post-Haven Accords Presidential Election in a surprise victory for his fledgling Lauchenoirian Democratic Alliance (LDA). However, his presidency was mired with controversy, and the LDA collapsed soon after.
Early life
Marwick was born in 1989 in a suburb of Summersea.
Wartime radio station
At the beginning of the Second Lauchenoirian Civil War, Marwick was a PhD student at the University of Melissa City. When the university was shut down by the Chaher regime, Marwick started an illicit pro-Lauchenoirian Resistance radio station and website, the latter of which was blocked by the government. This became one of the primary sources of news for anti-government forces[1]. He used his channels to advocate for an anti-communist revolution[2].
Presidency
The Marwick presidency was mired with controversy. While the role is designed to be largely ceremonial, Marwick took a more active involvement in day-to-day domestic politics, which led to much criticism. Several members of the LDA defected to other parties after Marwick posted a series of 'sexist' memes depicting Kerlian Councillors[3].
Extradition crisis
Marwick was criticised by leaders of many countries, most notably Sanctaria for his handling of an extradition request by Shuell for an aid worker who attempted to defect to Lauchenoiria[4]. He urged Parliament to pass an amendment to Lauchenoirian extradition law allowing extraditions to countries with the death penalty[5]. He attempted to extradite serial killer Jasmine Eddington to Kerlile[6], however Eddington successfully challenged his decision in court[7]. Eddington was, however, later extradited to Sanctaria.
Family
Marwick's sister defected to Kerlile when they were teenagers.
