Tennis was first contested as an Olympic sport during the 2019 Central Olympic Games in Shuell. Doubles tennis was introduced during the 2021 New Riga Olympic Games. As of 2023, Opthelian athletes have won more tennis events than any other nation, with three gold medals earned for their nation, while the winningest individual tennis player in Olympic history is Henry Milton, with two gold medals to his name.

Surfaces[edit | edit source]

The playing surface of the court varies between Olympiads, introducing a variable to play absent from most other Olympic events. In 2019, matches were set to be played on hard courts, as was the case in 2021, however, in Hanshui, athletes competed on clay courts.

Venues[edit | edit source]

2019 Central[edit | edit source]

Due to a particularly virulent outbreak of Adenovirus in late 2019, a number of Olympic events, including all tennis matches, were cancelled for the safety of players, spectators, and officials. Due to the harsh climate of Central, Shuell during the winter, all tennis matches were to be held indoors. John Moore (Libertas Omnium Maximus) was favored to win gold in men's singles, while Tenny Milwari (Zamastan) was favored to win gold in women's singles.

2021 New Riga[edit | edit source]

The New Riga Olympic Games saw the introduction of doubles tennis to the Olympic repertoire. Matches were played on hardtop courts. Athletes from Gardavasque, Libertas Omnium Maximus, and Astoria dominated the competition. Three competitors, Daisy Crackett, Henry Milton, and Eli Stone all medaled more than once, earning a medal for singles tennis and as part of a doubles pair. Both Dolores Villaverde (Lauchenoiria) and Vanessa Loyola (Kerlile), who were unable to compete in 2019 due to the cancellation of their matches, each returned in 2021 to win a bronze medal.

2023 Hanshui[edit | edit source]

As in New Riga, four tennis events (one singles and one doubles event for each gender) were held during the 2023 Hanshui Olympic Games. In a departure from custom, all matches were held on clay courts, presenting athletes with an additional element with which to contend. Opthelian athletes, newcomers to the Olympiad, proved a force to be reckoned with, medaling in every single event and taking three of the four gold medals. In an epic duel against Lee Faber (Sanctaria), Henry Milton (Libertas Omnium Maximus) successfully defended his gold medal in men's singles tennis. Athletes from Novella Islands, also in their nation's debut Olympic appearance, earned silver medals in women's singles and men's doubles.
