Edith Hart (13th April 1867 - 23rd March 1952) was one of the Founders of Kerlile and sat on the inaugural Council of Kerlile. She is credited with being one of the main founders of the International Women's Congress. Hart was also one of the primary claimants to the throne of North Fleura in the 1920s; although the monarchy was later abolished due to the formation of Kerlile without the succession crisis being resolved.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Edith Hart was born to Lord Andrew Hart of Hartwood, a third cousin of King Robert IV; and Princess Caitlin Hart, a first cousin of the Glannish monarch. She had three brothers and one sister; however none survived past the age of twenty-one. She attended school until the age of sixteen when she was encouraged to marry. She refused, and became involved in feminist activism instead.

Early feminist activism[edit | edit source]

Hart was among the founding members of the International Women's Congress, a biannual conference for people to discuss the furthering of women's rights globally. The first IWC was held in 1893 in North Fleura, in a property owned by the Hart family. By this time, her father was ill and had given up attempting to stop her activities. At the 1913 IWC, Hart proposed as a thought experiment the creation of a nation ruled solely by women; a thought experiment which later developed into a concrete plan and then the formation of Kerlile.

Formation of Kerlile[edit | edit source]

Following the death of King Robert IV without issue, a succession crisis was set off in North Fleura. All of Robert's siblings had passed away without surviving issue. Due to the presence of numerous illegitimate children, second marriages, and other complicating factors; North Fleurans could not decide between Andrew Hart and Callum May as to which of them had the foremost claim to the throne. During this period, Andrew passed of natural causes; with Edith thus taking his place as one claimant. However, Callum May was found dead soon after - without anyone being able to trace any children.

Before Edith could be crowned Queen, however; she invited other women she had met during meetings of the IWC to assist her in the realisation of her thought experiment and the creation of a Kerlian state. Through a mixture of convincing, bribery, and violence; Edith convinced the majority of the North Fleuran nobility to consent to a ten-year experiment whereby different regions of the country would be ruled by various women from the IWC in an attempt to wipe out the patriarchy.

After ten years; the Founders met and created the inaugural Council of Kerlile, making matriarchal rule permanent and officially abolishing the monarchy and the state of North Fleura.

On the Council[edit | edit source]

As a sitting member of the Council of Kerlile, Edith Hart was one of the staunchest believers in the "Kerlian project" and one of the first Councillors to embrace the ideology of Gynarchism officially. She repeatedly voted for measures entrenching female-only rule as permanent, and against any law she believed could lead to a "patriarchal reassertation".
