Victoria City is a large city located in Slokais Islands within Victoria Province. With a population of 1,017,958, Victoria City is the 5th largest by population. Victoria City is considered the capital of Costenoian culture, with 75% of residents speaking Spanish fluently the largest percentage of any major city. In addition, Victoria City is a major port for Slokais due to its position just beyond the Princeton Strait allowing for direct access to international shipping without entering internal Slokasian waters.
History[edit | edit source]
Victoria City was founded in 1785, by settlers from Costeno, named initially "Ciudad Victoria" after the ship that carried them there. Due to its location in a natural harbor and at the crucial junction at the Strait of Colorado, Victoria City quickly grew as an industrial center for the developing Victoria Province. The city saw rapid population expansion during the 1950s as rural workers were encouraged to move into urban areas for better job prospects. Because of the city's geography, informal communities were built into the surrounding hills, these areas called "Pubelos de Trabjadores" turned into permanent parts of the city itself.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Victoria City is located on the Southwestern edge of San Fernando Island. The city is located 25 miles south of Princeton Island, and 40 miles north of Kaijan Island. Victoria City is also a key shipping port due to its location at the western edge of Slokais and at the end of the High-Speed Rail corridor and the S-1 highway. Nearby Victoria National Park is a popular tourist spot home to not only undeveloped forested landscapes but also the Sueyon Lake Complex, an ancient historical site linked to Celestialism that remains a key site for Celestials in Slokais Islands.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Victoria City's largest industries are trade and steel manufacturing due to the prevalence of nearby steel mills. This has led to internal migration from surrounding Townships for work and education. Entertainment and Media are also a large industry with Spanish language networks and films being produced within the city. Nearby is Port Victoria Naval Base, the largest naval base in Slokais and a major Coast Guard operation center.
