The Triángulo de oro bombing was a terrorist attack that occurred on the 4th of July 1955 when a bomb exploded at the Triángulo de oro in Palerra, Mariso, Wosteaque, killing 834 people and wounding nearly 3,000. On the same day, serval other bombs exploded around Palerra. The attack was carried out by the National Liberation of Mariso, a fascist paramilitary terrorist group. The Marisain Independence Day was used to have the most casualties, therefore causing the most effect.
Political theories of responsibility for the bombing[edit | edit source]
The bombings aim was to prevent the country from falling into the hands of the left wing by duping the public into believing the bombings were part of a communist insurgency, this narrative partly worked initially, as it would cause the Progressive Party Schism, although it would backfire as this schism cause the communist to become elected in Mariso. The bombing plan was created after the failed 1950 Mariso independence referendum, in which only 11.7% of the population voted for independence.
