Sara Viallamando (November 1, 1919 - May 16, 2001) was the fifth President of Kerlile and second Viallamando Family member of the Council of Kerlile. She was born in then-independent Aeluria, now part of Lauchenoiria, and moved to Kerlile with her mother at the age of five in 1924.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Viallamando was born to wealthy native Aelurian parents in 1919, while the island was independent. In 1922, when Sara was three years old, the Third War of Aelurian Independence was fought and lost, with the island being incorporated into Lauchenoiria. A period of repression of native Aelurians followed, and as cousins to the prior ruling family, the Viallamandos were targets of Lauchenoirian abuses. In 1924, after attending a session of the International Women's Congress, Martina Viallamando took her young daughter to help found the Matriarchy of Kerlile.

On the Council[edit | edit source]

Upon her accession to the Council of Kerlile, the Communist government of Lauchenoiria announced that Viallamando would no longer be permitted to keep her Lauchenoirian citizenship. This had happened to her mother in 1952, when the Communists had first come to power.

On the Council, Viallamando was considered relatively moderate, however this would not hold into her presidency.

Presidency[edit | edit source]

Viallamando was an unexpected choice, with many expecting the presidency to pass to Rebecca Greenwood. However, Greenwood died shortly after Pierre, leading to the selection of Viallamando as president.

Early speculation over what Viallamando’s presidency would be like suggested that she would increase the rights of citizens and reverse the authoritarian direction of her predecessor. This was not to be the case. In the first year of Viallamando’s presidency, executions increased by 134%, and the prison population doubled.

One of Viallamando’s first acts was to rename Region 17, which had become colloquially known as “Hell” because of rumours that inmates in facilities there were regularly tortured, the Restricted Region. The official reason behind this change was to emphasise that only authorised personnel were permitted to set foot in the area.

Civil War[edit | edit source]

Following the execution of 70 men for “anti-matriarchal activity” in 1992, a group calling themselves the Democratic Kerlian State (DKS) attempted an uprising in Kerlile, aimed at overthrowing the Council and establishing a democratic state in its place. DKS was led by a woman called Henrietta Bartlett, and they managed to capture a considerable amount of territory in the early years of the war. DKS was supported by Lauchenoiria in a military capacity.

However, the forces of the Matriarchy captured the early DKS stronghold of New Winford in 1994, which was seen as a turning point in the war. DKS began to lose more and more territory, and in 1997, Lauchenoiria withdrew from the war. The remaining members of the DKS group fought until 1999, fearing what would happen to them if they surrendered.
