Republican Era
The Republican Era was the period in Laeralian history under the Republic of Laeral regime, beginning in 1922 with the proclamation of the Republic and extending through 1954, with the adoption of the 1954 constitution instituting the Second Allied Provinces of Laeral. The period was marked by semi-authoritarian hybrid rule under the Social Democractic Party as well as a Gramontist reform agenda which radically transformed virtually all sectors of Laeralian life. Through government programs collectively known as the Rose Revolution, the Social Democratic Party regime sought to reshape the Laeralian government, society, economy, and education system, while cementing their own dominant position in Laeralian society. Extensive factionalism within the SDP led to the triumph of the reformist faction, which in conjunction with opposition forces ushered in the 1954 constitutional convention and the transition to full democracy.
