The Louise Mountains War, also known as the Mingque Lake War and the Blue Failure was a three-year long war between Zamastan and the Empire of Shen. The war started on April 31st, 1847 when the Shen Empire invaded the northeastern administrative district of Pahl and began a campaign to seize control of the extensive farmland west of the Louise Mountains. A prolonged conflict ensued as the Shen Empire raised cities and burned cropland for the first year. The second year of fighting saw the Zamastanian army's response cause a stalemate which saw the two massive armies in long hard-fought battles, with neither side gaining ground. The tide of the war turned on New Years Eve, 1849, when the Zamastanian army began several stages of surprise attacks against Shen fortifications and bases deep behind their front lines. By the summer of 1850, the Shen Army had been pushed back behind the border of Lake Louise and eventually surrendered, allowing Zamastan to annex the region. The war was immensely costly in terms of human and economic loss, with hundreds of towns being destroyed and thousands of lives lost on both sides. Shen had fought a war of attrition in the early stages of the conflict, but were forced to change tactics to fighting against guerrilla-styled attacks.
