Cadwaladr is a purely Cymry religion, dating back to the 1300's. The name comes from the set of six rules, or Cadwdr, that all should follow. It is a worship of power and freedom, symbolized by a red dragon, named Cryfder. Some worship the Cryfder as purely a symbol, while others believe it to be a genuine deity.

History[edit | edit source]

Cadwaladr began during the War of Idris, A Cymry war for independence from the Prydainians. The Cymry had been besieged inside Caernarfon Castle, after being badly routed two days before. One of the healers, a man named Myrddin, had a dream, in which he saw a red dragon destroy the Prydanian army. The dragon then turned and declared "Pwer a rhyddid i Gymru (Power and Freedom to the People)." When he awoke, he felt great strength and rallied the men together under a new flag, which bore a red dragon. The Cymry won independence for Ruthin for 104 years. Myrddin declared himself priest of the Dragon, which he called Cryfder. Finally, in 1347, his grandson, Myrddin III, established Cadwaladr as an open religion, where anyone could become a priest.

Modern Orginazation[edit | edit source]

Cadwaladr has no official leadership, only a set of rules, called the White Book of Cryfder, and a school in Ruthin, dedicated to training new priests. The priests are taught the ceremonies, mostly consisting of chants and the reading of the Cadwdr.

The Cadwdr are as follows:

1. Never bow to one who takes your freedom. 2. Think first of your own people. 3. Life is precious, take it only in great need. 4. Seek strength and strengthen your neighbor. 5. Protect that which you love. 6. Befriend the strong, for when the earth crumbles, the strong will stand.
