The Papal States of Sanctaria was a transcontinental country that was the direct successor to the Papal Kingdom of Sanctaria, and was composed of the territory of Sanctaria, as well as colonies, protectorates, and territories under the direct sovereign rule of the Patriarch of the Church of Sanctaria. It lasted from 1528 until 1974. The largest, and most important, country within the Papal States was that of Sanctaria and it was from this mother country that the empire received its name, and was ruled and administered from. The Papal States, despite being many countries, were ruled as one unitary state; countries that joined the Papal States were legally joining Sanctaria, though were still usually referred to as colonies both in formal and informal settings.
