Carville is a city in Costeno Province, Lauchenoiria. In the 1600s, it was the historical capital of the Costenan Empire. During the Second Lauchenoirian Civil War it was the site of two major battles, leading to the destruction of much of the city.
History[edit | edit source]
The city of Carville was founded at some point in the 1500s as the summer home of the Costenan Royal Family. After a castle was constructed in the area, which had previously only hosted small fishing villages; Carville became an important port and the city quickly grew in size. Over time, three separate city walls were constructed, extending the city each time. The oldest of these walls has since disappeared without trace; the newest was mostly destroyed in 2018 during the SLCW.
After Costeno began seeking colonies and building their empire, the capital city was moved permanently to Carville; with the previous capital being reduced to a potential wartime hideaway should the country be invaded. When Shuell briefly took control of Costeno, the older capital was entirely destroyed. Due to its position as a port city, Carville became greatly important for trade in the surrounding area until the Lauchenoirian Communist Revolution when much foreign trade ceased.
During the 2018 war, the city was the location of several major battles, and suffered heavy damage. The Natural History Museum, previously a highly popular tourist destination, was used as a command post by Kerlian forces for a period during the war, causing severe damage to the museum, resulting in its continued closure as of 2023.
