Background[edit | edit source]
The Battle of Kascan City took place on December 23rd it was part of the Third Kaijan War. It began with around 40-50 Technicals(armored trucks with assault weapons) advancing through the first line of governmental Control. However, the Kascan City headquarters was warned as the forces from the first line recovered and followed the convoy in a Humvee. The initial force at the first defensive line, D Company of the 29th Infantry managed to take out a few vehicles before Kaijan League forces made it to town. Surrounding farms were captured by supporting ground forces of the Kaijan League.
Assault[edit | edit source]
Around 200 government forces of the 29th Division and the North Kaijan Police gathered at the backline just outside the town, they managed to take out a few vehicles, however, the order was to find cover before the Kaijan League arrived. Half of the Kaijan League assault group unloaded to fight through the streets, while another group tried to attack the township hall. But they were forced back as citizens inside fled into the bunker below the building as the fighting raged above. A 3rd group moved quickly to secure the nearby S-9 Highway but was stopped by a group of tanks from the 9th and 14th Divison that had rushed to the town from Kaijan City. Back in town, the Kaijan League forces pushed government forces as well as police units north as well as west of town, but in the western part of town were forced back under heavy fire from a makeshift barrier along the road. Tank support from the 9th and 14th soon cut off Kaijan League forces from each other. Kaijan League forces then pulled out of the southern part of town, with a general order to re-group.
For the next few hours, government forces went from house to house capturing resistance, with tank support. By nightfall, Kaijan League forces were forced back to the first line of defense, with many of them being captured.
Aftermath[edit | edit source]
It was the largest battle of the war and damaged most of the city. Afterward, government forces increased as it became a full-scale conflict. However, due to heavy losses from the battle and increased numbers against them the Kaijan League retreated into the mountains only a week later. In total over 150 soldiers on the government, side had been killed with many missing or wounded. However, the Kaijan League lost a lot of their forces as well with around 300 being killed or captured. In addition, several civilians were killed with many more being left homeless. The Ministry of Housing and Community Development provided temporary housing for those who remained unhoused and by 2022, 85% had either found new housing in Kascan City or elsewhere. Today, a monument stands outside the Township Hall honoring those who died.
