The Secretary of State for Labour and Employment, also known as the Secretary for Labour or Labour Secretary, is the head of the Sanctarian Department of Labour and Employment, which is tasked with oversight and regulation of the labour market in Sanctaria.

The current Secretary for Labour is Jessica Scott. She was appointed to the post on 01 February 2018, and the department was officially created by legislation later that same day.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The Secretary for Labour is a senior advisor to the Chancellor on matters relating to the labour market and trade union affairs in Sanctaria. Examples of areas that come under the purview of the Labour Secretary include trade union negotiation, workplace standards, and employment strategy.

The Department of Labour and Employment was created on 01 February 2018. Its new functions were transferred from other government areas, such as the then Departments of Commerce and Communities. Jessica Scott was appointed the inaugural Secretary for Labour and Employment.

Duties[edit | edit source]

Duties of the Labour Secretary include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and implementation of policy regarding employment strategy.
  • Regulation of, and interactions with, trade unions and workers' representation bodies.
  • Responsibility for workplace safety and standards.
  • Regular review and, if necessary, improvement of labour and employment laws, including minimum wage legislation.
  • Responsibility for setting labour dispute mechanisms.
