The Prime Minister of Lauchenoiria is the head of government of the Federation of Lauchenoiria since 1993. The Prime Minister is nominated and approved by the Federal Parliament of Lauchenoiria and must be a member of parliament. The Prime Minister is responsible for forming the Government of Lauchenoiria, composed of other members of parliament. The Prime Minister presides over meetings of this cabinet, and is responsible for the vast majority of affairs of governance of the country, as the role of President is largely ceremonial. The current Prime Minister is Josephine Alvarez.
Nomination[edit | edit source]
The Prime Minister is nominated by the Federal Parliament, and must be approved by a majority of this body to take office. The Prime Minister is usually the leader of the largest political party following an election, however as Lauchenoiria's parliament is elected via proportional representation, coalitions of other parties may disrupt this. Currently, Alvarez's Liberal Party are in coalition with the Greens and previously the Pacifists as part of the now-defunct Green-Pacifist Alliance, and as such was nominated and voted for by representatives of these three parties.
Role[edit | edit source]
The Prime Minister presides over meetings of the Cabinet and is responsible for ensuring the functions of government in Lauchenoiria are carried out. The Prime Minister appoints the other Cabinet members and oversees them in their department-specific roles. The Prime Minister also, along with the President, attends meetings on matters of national security, and is questioned by the Federal Parliament each week.
