The Center for Democratic Advancement (CDA) is a non-governmental organization headquartered in Huenya. The NGO was started in Huenya in the aftermath of the Second Xiomeran Civil War, but has since expanded operations to multiple nations around the world.

History

The CDA originally started as a group called the Coalition for Huenyan Democracy. The Coalition was made up of Huenyan religious, political and social leaders, as well as tribal leaders. The CDA came together in response to the original plan released at the end of 2020 for the creation of an independent Huenyan state. The plan, known as the Chuaztlapoc Plan, called for Huenya to be organized with a system very similar to that of Xiomera. The plan to create a "United Empire of Huenya" that essentially mirrored Huenya's former colonial master was an instant non-starter for many Huenyans.

In reaction to the extremely unpopular Chuaztlapoc Plan, the leaders of the Necatli tribe called for leaders from throughout Huenya, from many different circles, to come together in the city of Acalan to draft a response. The groups eventually agreed on what came to be known as the Acalan Manifesto, which it issued on January 23rd, 2021. Public anger at the Chuaztlapoc Plan forced the interim Huenyan government to scrap it, accepting the seven demands of the Acalan Manifesto instead as the foundation for organizing a Huenyan state.

After their success in forcing the interim government to adopt a more democratic model, the members of the Coalition decided that it would be beneficial to transform it into a more formal NGO. It would be dedicated to "keeping the Huenyan government from backsliding into tyranny", in the words of the first CDA Secretary-General, Ahuilizcoehua. The CDA was formally organized on May 23rd, 2021.

Purpose

The purpose of the CDA is to maintain and further develop democracy, free and fair elections, and the furtherance of civil rights in the nations that it operates in. Outside of Huenya, the CDA focuses its efforts on nations where democracy is either under threat, or not yet allowed to flourish due to local conditions or repressive governments.

Methods

CDA establishes branches at the local level, where their activists work to educate people on democracy and civil rights. CDA activists also train and provide local residents advice on how they can advocate for electoral democracy and democratic institutions in their countries. CDA branches also help organize broader social movements to bring about change locally and on a nationwide basis.
