The Third Kaijan War is an ongoing civil conflict in Slokais Islands sparked in 2020 by the Kaijanese pro-independence group the Kaijan League. Currently, there are three factions, the government of Slokais Islands, the Kaijan League, and the F.J.K. Though there are a number of militias allied with each faction.

Background[edit | edit source]

The Kaijan League, a Islamic pro-Kaijan militia organization was formed in 2016. The stated goal of the group upon it's founding was to secure independence for Kaijan by force. Although the idea of Kaijanese separatism has existed in some form since 1892. Including during the First and Second Kaijan War, as well a period of brief independence from 1965-1968. Intel has revealed the Kaijan League started planning the November 20 Attacks as soon as 2019. Led by Muammar Al-Hamzi, a wealthy businessman who had been active although not involved in prior Kaijanese movements. Al-Hamzi argued prior movements had ignored political Islam and only stood for the liberation of Kaijan not for the restoration of Islamic law which governed Kaijan prior to 1840.

In addition, the Kaijanese economy while being fairly productive saw concentrated wealth in the hands of around 5% of the population. In the eyes of Nationalists, the richest people in Kaijan where all non-Kaijanese or "Al-Ghayr " who where holding the island back. In terms of development the failure of multiple administrations development programs led to large portion of the population being dissatisfied with the central government. Socially, political Islam rallied against "outside values" being pushed upon the Kaijanese people. While there had been a peacekeeping force in South Kaijan after 2008, the transition of duties to local police is widely believed to have allowed armed groups such as the Kaijan League to raise arms. In June of 2020, a string of Federal officers was killed while on duty in a span of several weeks raising concerns. This led to other province's providing rotating deployments of there Provincial Guard to act as police units. In September, the Kaijan League held a rally in North Kaijan which called for economic power to be shifted to Kaijanese people. This raised some concern in the Ministry of Justice, who per a 2022 Report began surveillance on the group.

History[edit | edit source]

On November 20th, 2020 the Kaijan League conducted an attack on the Provincetown Hotel. The hotel which was holding a conference of military and business leaders many of which where members of the "Al-Ghayr". This information while private has been identified by an Hotel staff working for the League who published a document with both room numbers and names of key figures. Although initial investigations suggested the attack was random, the route the assailants used was likely pre-planned as the attack itself lasted around 5 minutes. While Provincetown Police quickly responded to emergency calls, the assailants escaped before being re-identified by traffic camera's a few minutes later. The assailants ranged in age from 17-25 year's of age, all from North Kaijan with communications between the group being in the indigenous Kapyirua language, largely to delay investigators.

The attack was followed by another at Kaijan City International Airport while members of the Tribal Council and the Ambassador to Slokais from Laeral were on a visit to the region. The group was soon captured and held in half-built Terminal 3 of the airport. Everyone in the Ambassador's entourage was captured except Dorian Huet, a manhunt began and he was soon captured. However Huet revealed that he had been paid by a contactor to provide details to the Kaijan League with the contractor eventually being captured himself while attempting to leave Slokais.

There were also related attacks in Eiria involving a pipe bomb and a stabbing of a NLT Worker and several Embassy District Security guards in New Liverpool, that injured 7 people. Although the Kaijan League did not directly organize these attacks, widely being perpetrated by young men in the Kajianese diaspora.

2020 Offensive[edit | edit source]

The party of the Tribal Council and the Ambassador where held in custody for several days as there captors demanded a cash ransom as well as the release of political prisoners and for several members of the Kaijanse and federal governments to resign. Due to widespread pressure the Kaijan League was physically given a unknown amount ransom money on November 23rd with the perpetrators boarding a private plane. While none of the captors where physically identified, it's widely believed many where ex-police or military due to there experience. Upon it's flight from Kaijan City International, the plane disappeared from radar.

While the build-up of troops had already begun from November 20th onward. A force led by John Acura Jr known as Peacekeeping Force S-4 was tasked with closely monitoring and patrolling North Kaijan. On December 1st, the Kaijan League launched an offensive as they claimed there demands where not fulfilled and called for a "national uprising". Their attacks began in Kascan Township, and within a week 60% of Kascan Township and 20% of Allmang Township were under the control of the Kaijan League as peacekeeping forces where largely outnumbered. At the time federal leadership cautioned against the full deployment of military force due to the high number of civilians and political pressure not to. On December 13th, a raid by the Slokasian Bureau of Internal Security (SBIS) captured Muammar Al-Hamzi on charges of terrorism and conspiracy to mass homicide The Kaijan League promised revenge as an assault on Kascan City was launched. The Battle of Kascan City has been the largest battle of the war with a Kaijan League assault overwhelming the underequipped S-4 Force. However the arrival of tank and artillery units later in the day led to federal forces quickly re-gaining control and saw with Kaijan League moved back to outside the town. The battle saw both civilian and troop losses on both sides, however was a turning point as Federal forces quickly poured into North Kaijan. The federal government also approved the use of artillery and the enforcement of a regional no-fly zone which was enforced by the Slokasian Air Force. Artillery units launched short-range strikes against key Kaijan League infrastructure such as gas stations and weapons depots. Within Kaijan League controlled territory, arrests and purges began of government employees as well as those demanded as "accepting of outsider culture".

Federal force then briefly regrouped and by December 28th, the federal assault began. The Kaijan League had suffered heavy losses in both the Battle of Kascan City and by artillery fire quickly formed a final defensive position in Karonda. Superior training and numerical advantages along with helicopter support led to A series of quick advances led to the complete capture of Karonda on January 1st, although many of high-ranking officials within the Kaijan League had fled. The government declared completion of the operation and transferred authority to Security Force Kaijan 5 (SFK-5) Command made up of both provincial and some federal forces.

Security Force Kaijan[edit | edit source]

For the duration of 2021 and 2022, North Kaijan remained under a state of emergency with SFK operating in Kascan, Allman and Pendang Townships, concurrently areas that had been controlled by the Kaijan League where re-settled through and unburied dead were laid to rest. However public ceremonies ceased in July 2021 after a funeral for a police officer in the village of Ilayabongo was attacked by armed gunmen, the suspect was soon killed by police and was ruled to be a lone-wolf attack. In total, at least 250 people were identified at various mass grave sites, most were identified to be civil servants, although some groups claim the Kaijan League killed those of various minority groups. SFK reported 34 violent incidents in 2021 and 13 in 2022 with the largest being a August 2021 explosion at a post office in Bailong Beach which killed 24 people. This explosion in the popular surfing town on the west coast of Kaijan led to the collapse of the Kaijanese surf industry.

While the Kaijan League had been unpopular, the Kaijanese independence movement gained support as miltary and police abuses and arrests where widely denounced with Kaijan. This pressure on the government of both provinces led to new coalitions coming into power in both North and South Kaijan as Kaijanse autonomy became a major issue. Several smaller armed groups also came into existence in 2021 and 2022 such as Yellow Cats which disrupted federal infrastructure and protested SFK's efforts. In response to increasing violence, ethnic minority groups such as the Minjian faithful began to arm themselves, which grew concerns of sectarian violence. Youth support of Kaijanese independence also grew as unemployment and poverty hit there highest numbers since 2005.

Operation Redemption[edit | edit source]

On January 18th, 2023, an explosion occurred during a raid by Kaijan Federal Police, 14 officers died and 5 were left injured. This triggered the start of a new operation known as Operation Redemption, and the deployment of the military to "secure important points" around Kaijan. SFK while involved in the operation came under direct executive command with a No-Fly Zone going into effect across South Kaijan. The Kaijan League while not engaging in a physical assault began disruptive attacks with a demand to keep fighting until Kaijan was independent. However, the operation was condemned by many in Kaijan including the Muslim Union Party. Operation Redemption deployed 5,500 troops of the 18th and 27th Infantry Divison, supported by the Coast Guard and the South Kaijan Federal Police. With every township in Southern Kaijan and Pembang Township in North Kaijan being declared "areas of increased danger" and therefore police authority was transferred to the military. This stage of the conflict saw number of small militia groups such as Fakhur Jaysh Kaijanese. F.J.K is more radical than the Kaijan League, advocating for the creation of a global caliphate with Kaijan as part of this desired caliphate. According to Malcolm Chang of the Anti-Terror Task Force, FJK is more brutal than the Kaijan League. Rather than targeting infrastructure and seeing itself as being a populist force for Kaijan, FJK believes all non-Muslims and moderate Muslims are targeted. FJK briefly captured several settlements in mid-2023 before being driven into hiding. Another aspect of Operation Redemption was the arrest of suspected insurgent members, over 1,500 where arrested as of August 2024 many await trial at Bankhead Federal Prison in South San Fernando Province. This led to protests outside the prison and the offices of the National Investigation Bureau, the Ministry of Defense, and the South Kaijan Capitol. A criticism of the operation has been the suspension of authority of local forces, with some local officials criticizing the federal response.

The 2023 Kaijan Status Referendum was held in December of 2023, with 64% in favor of Kaijanese independence. Although non-binding the referendum grew political legitimacy and several meetings between federal and regional leaders. However as of 2025, no further steps have been announced. The voting itself saw some violence as the Kaijan League rejected the referendum, although an explosion at a South Kaijanse voting center was not claimed by the group with not possible leads being identified. Operation Redemption was declared over on January 1st, 2025 with SFK-6 being formed to monitor and maintain peace as well as landmine removal as the intensity of violent attacks has decreased. In addition, the Kaijan League also declared a policy of non-aggression in exchange for the release of it's members who where arrested and convicted as youths. However the war remains on-going as the government has not declared victory or the Kaijan League given up upon it's intended goals.

Casguian Bay Incident[edit | edit source]

In late 2023, the Casguian Bay was assigned to patrol Kaijanse water's due to illegal migration from Mallacaland and Aredoa. However on December 23rd, a mysterious explosion occurred destroying the ship and much of the ship it had stopped which was transporting weapons to the Kaijan League. Although initially declared as a boiler room malfunction, survival testimonials published in 2024 portrayed a different story. Captain Elena Min intentionally destroyed the ship to prevent it's capture of key security information and to kill the boarding party of the illegal ship which survivors identified as the Komanimaru. While the SIBI denied these claims in there intial report a July 2024 report revealed the survivors where correct however declared Captain Min misidentified the ship and was instead a vessel operated by a pro-Kaijanse sympathizer in Mallacaland. The details of the Casguian Bay Incident remain largely classified, as Coast Guard patrols began again with a focus on deterring weapons smuggling and the authorization of the Slokasian Air Force to fly patrols over South Kaijan. Captain Min was initially denied the Medal of Valor, the highest miltary honor however she received it in 2025, upon the construction of a memorial in Carolina Bay, Dolphin Isle.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The Third Kaijan War has had significant effects not just on Kaijan but Slokais Islands as a whole. Sources estimate that between 70,000 and 100,000 people have been displaced by the conflict, many moving to New Liverpool and settling in the Southland Ward of the city. The conflict has also put Kaijanese Independence back in the spotlight, with parties such as the Muslim Union and the Kaijanese People's Party gaining key political support.
