Northern Isle's Province is a province located in Slokais Islands, Although one of the largest by size, due to various island possesions, the province remains the smallest of the original provinces of Slokais.
History
Before the arrival of settlers, the Northern Isles were inhabited by a number of tribes such as the Islayas people, the Islayas built fishing settlements as well as a number of stone structures related to their religion To-Keng or "way of being". The largest of these is located near Kirkwall and consists of 18 stone pillars leading to the highest point in the Northern Isles, Mt Jiaxiang. In 837, settlers of the White Flower Temple established a walled settlement on Kirkwall Island. They converted most of the local population to Minjian and built a temple on top of Mt Jianxing. During the Medieval period, the islands were taken by the Hman Knights, and a city was built on what's now Kirkwall. The Costeno authority largely ignored the islands until the 1820s when the first waves of settlers from Sanctaria arrived. These settlers created the Northern Isles Territory that joined the greater Dominion of Slokais in 1834. The islands became a territory of the country of Slokais Islands in 1890.
The Richmont Island Rebellion
In 1893 on Richmont Island, rural farmers and fishermen got tired of paying taxes on exports of supplies so they went to the Richland Township buildings and buried them to the ground, They then collected $40,000 from a local bank. In response a militia was formed by the Provincial Government and up to this point, the federal government could not respond. The Northern Isles Militia eventually captured or killed all rebels, burning the town of Leewell in the process, they then executed the leaders and began a 2-year occupation of the island.
Economy
Fishing is the dominant occupation in the Northern Isles with sheep farming and farming being other major industries. In addition, due to Northern Isle's position close to Haesan and Pharitaya, trade and tourism between these countries is a significant industry. In 2007, to be economically competitive, gambling was legalized. In 2011, a casino was opened in the small town of Hayestown, leading to the city becoming a destination for tourists from Eastern Haesan. In addition, the Northern Isles has invested heavily in wind energy and technology in exchange for investment in colleges such as Islands Tech. Despite this Northern Isles has one of the highest rates of poverty with 30.5% of citizens qualifying for federal poverty assistance. This poverty has led to a decrease in population, with migration to nearby provinces being common.
Education
Northern Isles often ranks near the bottom in NAP and NCE scores of any province with an average score of 1280 and 5.9 respectively. Due to match of the province being rural, public schools are often remote or day schools and are run by the Ministry of Education. In addition, Northern Isle's has two major public universities, Northern Isles University, and Islands Tech. The largest private college and the largest college by enrollment in the province is Kirkwall College.
Politics and Govermeant
Northern Isles is subdivided into 4 townships, including the combined city and township of Kirkwall. These are further divided into villages and tribal communities, two unique administrative divisions of the Northern Isles. Kirkwall is the administrative and economic capital and the location of the Northern Isle's Assembly. Northern Isle is one of the most conservative provinces, with a left-wing or center candidate not winning since 1938.
Demographics
Northern Isles is one of the most ethnically homogeneous provinces in Slokais Islands. This is due to limited migration to the province and limited settlement. Despite this, it has the largest percentage of people with Haesanite ancestry, as of 2022, 17.4%.
