Rivers Ward is a prominent ward within the City of New Liverpool in Slokais Islands. Home to 192,457 residents, River's Ward is one of the densest municipalities in Slokais Islands. This is due to River's being entirely urban and mainly residential due to its location close to downtown New Liverpool and the general land affordability. Rivers Ward has been a hub of urban Costenoian culture due to mass migration from Victoria and South San Fernando Province.

History[edit | edit source]

Upon New Liverpool's founding in 1822, several wards were created. River's Ward was designated as undeveloped land beyond the original 30-block city limits. This status within the Federal District, but outside the city limits led to the area becoming a location for illicit establishments such as Alameda's Tavern, the oldest surviving building in River's Ward. In 1857, after complaints from businesses within the city limits of illicit goods, Fort Santiago was built on a small island in the San Fernando River. However, River's Ward maintained its negative repetition and was the site of a city's first dumping ground. In 1894, River's Ward became part of the City of New Liverpool. In 1903, a Ward Hall was opened along 38th Ave and the Ward began to provide public services such as police, fire, and education. In 1910, River's Ward High School (now known as River's Ward STEM High School) was opened to students within the ward. During the 1920s, a large number of working-class Ren migrants settled in the Castle Park neighborhood and opened the Southern New Liverpool Conclave. In 1928, the new River Line railway was built through the Ward, with a station being built at 42nd Ave.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Rivers Ward is considered a cultural hub for the Costenoain community. In the 1940s, a large number of Costenoian migrants moved from rural areas in search of work. Although they settled throughout much of New Liverpool, low land prices and rents led to River's Ward being majority Costeno by 1955. This led to a new culture being formed around the Spanish language, with literature, music, and film being produced during the 40s and 50s. After, the Great War there was a need for large-scale housing, and sadly many of these cultural institutions were destroyed in favor of larger housing blocks. However, some of these institutions survived such as the Spanish Language Center, a primary authority on the language within Slokais. In the 1980s, Rivers Ward began to see a large number of Koldan and Mallcan migrants helping create a new musical genre known as Beat and Synth. B&S was often broadcast over pirate radio, as major radio stations feared the music would provoke violence. Early B&S artists like Santa Ana and DJK came from the Rivers Ward and established the ward as the center for the genre. Today, several B&S labels are headquartered in the Ward, as well as many of its artists.
