The Democratic Socialist Republic of Wosteaque, commonly known as Wosteaque or the Wosteaquean Union, or it's nickname "the five-star republic", and the "republic of republics", is a country located in the middle of the Olympic Ocean & Southern Ocean. It consists of 5 republics, Frésir, Boemont, Larton, Narkim, Mariso, 165 districts, 4 autonomous regions, 19 independent cities, a federal district, 21 conservatory districts, and two federal conservatory and research territories. At 4,172,800 kilometers it is the largest multi-island country in the IDU. The country's closest maritime borders are Debeeland, and Doatia. The country has 499,793,302 people in its borders. The federal capital is Wostmage, and the most populous city is Zlento.

Wosteaque has a national sprit of self reliance, which is a result from it's isolationist policies, although it is not unfamiliar for Wosteaque to have membership in international organizations, like the Consortium of Independent Nations or the Opthelian Commonwealth. Wosteaque does however, usually take a more neutral stance in these organizations.

Etymology

The first known use of the name "Wosteaque" dates back to October 17, 1525, when it was created by Charlotte Beset to have a name not be based on a language or a culture. A year later the name was officially accepted to be the name of the nation.

History

Pre-colonial history (before 1390)

The first inhabitants of Wosteaque migrated from the southern part of Liberalia. They settled in the northern part of the island of Cheucia around 15,000 years ago. The second migration happened when inhabitants migrated to Frésir, Boemont, and Larton, from Caxcana, and Neria around 10,000 years ago. The third migration was when inhabitants from Frésir, Boemont, and Larton migrated to Narkim around 2,500 years ago.

Over time, native cultures grew progressively complex, with some, particularly the native nations in Mariso, rivaling the top powers at the time in terms of technology. The city of lañuakiru was the largest town in pre-colonial history in Wosteaque, with a population of approximately 200,000.

The most populous of the native nations, Quecheucians had many technologies that other civilizations did not have at that time, such as early antibiotics from the fungus grown on bread. The Quecheucians held approximately one third of the island of Cheucia, for which the island is named. Quecheucia played an important part in the further liberation of Mariso with the supply raids they, the Warmacha, and the Punkiri inflicted upon the European armies. These raids were crucial for the republic of Mariso to achieve victory.

Early colonization (1390-1524)

Frésir and Boemont were the first parts of Wosteaque to be rediscovered, and colonized by both the Costenan Empire, and the Empire of Esilie around the late 1380s, and the early 1390s. Both empires quickly set up forts around the coast, and market posts to trade with the natives of the islands. Tensions began in 1411 between the two empires over territorial disputes, and in 1413 both monarchies being Sanctarian Catholic, went to Patriarch Paul V. Paul V, decided to give Frésir to Esilie, and Boemont to Costeno with the stipulation that one empire gets to keep their current settlements.

In 1433 the [IDU French Empire Substitute] began to heavily settle parts of both Boemont, and Frésir, and in 1442 the first colonial war began between the [IDU French Empire Substitute], and the Costenan Empire over Boemont, in which the [IDU French Empire Substitute] captured the western regions of Boemont. By the 1450s the rest of Boemont, and some eastern parts of Frésir were captured by the [IDU French Empire Substitute].

Revolutionary War (1525-1531)

The Wosteaquean Revolutionary War was fought by Wosteaque and the [IDU French Empire Substitute]. In the years preceding the war, Wosteaqueans had developed, and fostered a proto-socialism-like ideology, asserting that a government's duty was for the people and that every human was born equal regardless of race, gender, and social class. In 1520 multiple regions began to withdraw from their colonial duties, with hostilities towards colonial soldiers, and administrators ramping up. [IDU French Empire Substitute] began to withdraw from these some of the regions but still claimed them as part of it's empires.

On September 2, 1525, tension further began to tighten when a large riot began in the city of Zlento. In order to stop the riot the [IDU French Empire Substitute] used lethal force against the rioters, with colonial guards firing arquebuses, and even cannons upon the rioters, with approximately 500 people being shot by the guards. This sparked larger riots in the city with colonial officials withdrawing into the more secure part of the city. Multiple [French] forts were raided by the People's Militia, and subsequently the rioting getting worse. the [French] retreated back into more stable regions by boat. The independent city of Zlento is regarded as the first part of Wosteaque to gain its independence.

On October 17, 1525, 5 colonies rebelled against the [French] colonizers. Provoked by the multiple massacres perpetrated by colonial guards, and other regions declaring independence, multiple militias engaged [French] forts and ports. The initial success of the, now semi-unified, Militia of Wosteaque was halted when more reinforcements arrived from [France] The stalemate lasted for around 2 months until an army consisting of elite [French] and Esiliean troops captured the town of Ilfracombe, the capture broke the already weak lines of the Militia. The success of the Europeans snowballed until the battle of Clanin, where multiple conflicting orders, and a rivalry between the two colonial armies, resulted with a skirmish between the armies This skirmish allowed the Militia to surround the remaining soldiers, and push back the colonials.

After the battle of Clanin, Esilie stopped giving support to the [IDU French Empire Substitute], and on June 20, 1528, [IDU French Empire Substitute] signed a peace treaty.

Liberation of Larton (1623-1640)

Late colonization (1674-1826)

Liberation of Narkim (1752-1774)

Opium War (1702)

The war was started in 1702 when it was discovered that Opthelian ships were using Wosteaquean waters to export opium to Teyè. Wosteaque seized approximately twenty ships transporting opium, this resulted in Wosteaque banning the Empire of Opthelia from its waters. The Empire of Opthelia's response was to escort their trading ships with military ships, and on June 6, 1702, several Opthelian trading, and military ships entered Wosteaquean waters, at around noon the Wosteaquean navy tried to seize the opium, then escort, the Opthelian ships out of it's waters. The Opthelians, realizing that they were outnumbered, tried to flee, but were met by more Wosteaquean ships, the Opthelian following a no-seizure order, opened fire. When the battle was over eleven Opthelian ships were sunk and many Wosteaquean ships were sunk, The trading ships were seized, and scuttled. The Empire of Opthelia would stop transporting opium in Wosteaquean waters, and would stop transporting opium all together in 1730.

Geography

Wosteaque comprises 525 islands which are distributed in the Olympic Ocean and the Southern Ocean. The five main islands of Wosteaque are Olun, Ipune, Esnen, Toclana and Cheucia. As of 2020, Wosteaque's territory is 2,592,858 km². Wosteaque is substantially prone to earthquakes, tsunami and volcanic eruptions because of its location along the various fault lines that run along the Olympic and Southern Ocean. Destructive earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcano eruptions occur several times each century.

Biodiversity

Wosteaque is one of the most biodiverse countries in the IDU, being classified as a megadiverse country by the National Biology Institute of Wosteaque, with many species only being found in Wosteaque, such as the steppe bison or the Wosteaquean cheetah. Wosteaque has 525 mammal species, 1,088 birds, 412 reptiles, and 319 amphibians, and over 100,000 insect species.

Wosteaque has a variety of animals deemed as national symbols. Most animal orders have one chosen for each republic, although if a order is not present in a republic then one is not chosen.

Climate

Wosteaque has many different climates with each republic having at least three different climate classifications. Below is a table of each Carla-Geoffroy climate classification for each republic, and territory.

Tropical Cyclones

As a multi-island nation in the middle of a ocean, Wosteaque is prone to tropical cyclones, hurricanes for Mariso, and typhoons for Narkim, although they are different just in name. These large rapidly rotating storm systems pose a threat to coastal and low-lying regions in Wosteaque. Tropical cyclones cost Wosteaque around half a billion monos of damages each year.

Tornados

While in most areas of Wosteaque tornados are as common as most other countries, the republic of Boemont has the Southwest tornado alley, the largest tornado alley in Wosteaque. Other tornado alleys exist in Wosteaque, such as the South-east tornado alley in Frésir or the Marais tornado alley in Boemont. These tornado alleys produce favorable conditions for tornado to form, or when conditions are just right, tornado outbreaks.

Government and politics

Wosteaque is a federal republic consisting of five republics, Frésir, Boemont, Larton, Narkim, and Mariso, 164 districts, 4 autonomous regions, 19 independent cities, a federal district, 21 conservatory districts, and two federal conservatory and research territories. It is one of the oldest surviving federations. It is a federal semi-presidential constitutional republic, where sovereignty is shared between three levels, federal, republic, and state. States have their own local governments.

The Wosteaquean Constitution serves as the country's supreme legal document, with urgent changes having to have a 4/5 vote. Every 50 years the constitution undergoes a process in which every amendment is voted on, and new ones are proposed.

Wosteaque has operated under a progressive ideologies for most of its history, although it was briefly communist from 1960 to 1980, with some of the states retaining strong communist support.

Citizenship is granted at birth in all republics, districts, autonomous regions, the Capitol District, and all Wosteaquean territories.

Federal government

The federal government comprises three branches, which are headquartered in Wostmage. and regulated by a system of checks and balances defined by the Wosteaquean Constitution.

  • Legislative: The tricameral National Convocation of Wosteaque, made up of the National Senate, National Representatives, and the National Assembly, makes federal law, declares war, approves treaties, has the power of the purse, and has the power of impeachment, by which it can remove sitting members of the federal government.
  • Executive: The Executive Council of Wosteaque are the commander-in-chiefs of the Department of Offense, can veto legislative bills before they become law (subject to convocative override), and appoints the members of the Cabinet (subject to Senate approval) and other officers, who administer and enforce federal laws and policies.
  • Judicial: The Supreme Court and lower federal courts, whose judges are appointed by the president with Senate approval, interpret laws and overturn those they find unconstitutional.

The National Senate has 380 senators with two for every state, National Representative has 941 members with the members being spread disproportionately to more populated districts and independent cities. The National Assembly is the largest with 1 member per 25,000 people, they have 18836 members, with them rarely being called in at once, though events like the developmental constitution, and impeachment are an exception. The National Senate term length is 6 years, the National Representatives term length is 4 years, and the National Assembly term length is 10 years.

Each branch is inform by five advisory councils. The councils are the Economic Council, the Educational Council, the Cultural Council, the Social Council, and the Health Council.

Republic Government

Each republic has its own government which can act as a separate country, especially in case of separation, which is a right any republic, district, or territory can use to exit the Wosteaquean Union. The republic government shares its rights with the federal government, with the latter having more say.

Each republic elects a president for a five-year term, with a two-term limit, and is in charge of the republics part of the Department of Defense. The president is then part of the federal president council which is the federal executive branch. The republics also have a judicial, and legislative branch.

Districts

The republics are then further separated into districts. Districts are then divided further into municipalities or municipality's equivalents.

Autonomous Regions
