The Third Kaijan War is an ongoing civil conflict in Slokais Islands sparked in 2020 by the Kaijanese pro-independence group the Kaijan League. Currently, there are three factions, the government of Slokais Islands, the Kaijan League, and the F.J.K. Though there are a number of militias allied with each faction.

Background

The Kaijan League was founded in 2016. Their mission was to secure independence for Kaijan by force. Although the idea of Kaijanese separatism has existed since 1892. Including during the Second Kaijan War. The Kaijan League started planning the November 20 attacks as soon as 2019. They built a secret airbase in the remote mountains of Kaijan receiving funding and arms from unknown donors. Before the War, their numbers were around 100 by late December 2019.

History

On November 20th, 2020 the Kaijan League conducted raids on the Provincetown Hotel. This was followed by an attack at Kaijan City International Airport while members of the Tribal Council and the Ambassador to Slokais from Laeral were on a visit to the region. They were also related to attacks in Eria, and a stabbing in New Liverpool, that injured 15 people, though the Kaijan League may not conduct these. Everyone on the Ambassador's team was captured except Dorian Huet, a manhunt began and he was captured. He however revealed that he had been paid by a contact. That same contact was later found trying to escape the country.

They were given the ransom money a week later and a private plane before they flew into the mountains. There they were silent for a few days as federal forces moved into the area, however from there began their attacks on Kascan Township, within a week 60% of Kascan Township and 20% of Allman Township were under the control of the Kaijan League. However, a raid by special forces captured the leader a few days later, however as revenge an assault on Kascan City was launched. The Battle of Kascan City took place on December 23 and saw heavy losses on both sides and the Kaijan League moved back to outside the town. Both sides then briefly regrouped and by December 27th, John Acura Jr. had arrived to command the force. A series of quick advances lead to the capture of Karonda City on January 4th, which led to the surrender of much of the Kaijan League leadership.

=Operation Redemption

On January 18th, 2023, an explosion occurred during a raid by Kaijan Federal Police, 14 officers died and 5 were left injured. This triggered the start of a new operation known as Operation Redemption, and the deployment of the military to "secure important points" around Kaijan. Since the start of the operation, there have been a number of clashes and arrests. However, the operation had been condemned by many in Kaijan including the Muslim Union Party. This Operation deployed 5,500 troops of the 18th and 27th Infantry Divison, they are supported by the Coast Guard and the South Kaijan Federal Police. Every township in Southern Kaijan and Pembang Township in North Kaijan has been declared "areas of increased danger" and therefore police authority has been transferred to the military.

This stage of the conflict had seen a number of small militia groups such as Fakhur Jaysh Kaijanese. F.J.K is more radical than the Kaijan League, advocating for the creation of a global caliphate with Kaijan as part of this desired caliphate. According to Malcolm Chang of the Anti-Terror Task Force, FJK is more brutal than the Kaijan League. Rather than targeting infrastructure and seeing itself as being a populist force for Kaijane, FJK believes all non-muslims and moderate Muslims are targeted. FJK has captured a number of settlements in far south Kaijan, and as of June 2023 is pressuring the provincial capital of Tabayas.

Effects

The Third Kaijan War has had significant effects not just on Kaijan but Slokais Islands as a whole. Sources estimate that between 70,000 and 100,000 people have been displaced by the conflict, many moving to New Liverpool and settling in the Southland Ward of the city. The conflcit has also put Kaijanese Indpendence back in the spolight, with parties such as Muslim Union and the Kaijanese People's Party gaining key politcal support.
