The Centrist Party was founded in 1901 as the Center Party, so called because it sat in the Center of the Slokaisian Legislature.
History
The First Political System
The Center Party was founded by Alexander Lin, it quickly became a powerful party due to its connections. At this point, it was a center-left political party, though in voting patterns for the party were very broad at this point. By 1910 the Center Party had a governing coalition, winning some seats with 90% of the vote. Experts today suggest the 1910, 1914, and 1916 elections had massive fraud and bribery via the National Progress Council. The NPC was a think-tank associated with the Center Party that worked with local criminal groups to change the outcomes of elections. Some of these activities became uncovered in 1919, leading to the Revolt of June, where Center Party members raised arms against left-wing protesters and union groups. After this Center Party lost all support and quickly became a third party behind the dominant Conservative and Left parties.
Second to Fifth Political System
The party remained small through the 20s and 30s and began to move further right before it was banned in 1954 by the National Reformist Council of Political Workers. In the post-civil-war era, the Center Party became a liberal, suburban political party, but was still small. In 2001, the Center Party joined with the Left Party against the Conservative Party becoming coalition partners. In 2010 the party saw mass re-birth as a center-left to center-right party and became the largest party for the first time in 90 years. However, by 2017 the party has split between the center-left and the conservative factions. The Center-Left became National Alliance under Joseph Chavez, while Joseph Zhang led the remaining members. In 2018, Joseph Zhang renamed the party the Centrist Party before being elected President. However, losses in 2020 and 2022 by the re-birth of the Conservatives led Joseph Zhang to resign as party leader. He was replaced by Katilyin Jiang, an MP from West Xiang.
