Life
Joseph Chavez was born July 12th 1979 to a middle-class family in the Calle Puerto neighborhood of New Liverpool, he spent much of his life living in an apartment with his parents as well as 3 siblings. In his book "My Story" he recalls that his early life was uneventful, as his parents both worked day jobs outside the home, so he would often read books from friends or older people in the community. He originally wanted to work at New Liverpool Metro like his parents, he often loved accompanying his parents on trips around town, often enjoying just walking through stations in the network. When he was 15, he started at Two River High School, it was poorly funded and people there often never graduated, however, Joseph ended up scoring well enough to get accepted into the Wells Academy, a private school that cost $10,000 per year. Joseph ended up agreeing to help pay the cost by taking a job at Sun-Mart. Until college, his days would often be filled with schoolwork than to his job than home. At his school, he was made fun of for working and often looking tired. His classmates described him as keeping to himself, yet smart. He was often at the end of jokes about his lack of money. He was accepted into New Liverpool University with a major in political theory and a minor in business. Through college, he became active with the Center Party (now the centrist) back then it was center-left to a centrist political party. In 2000 he was elected with 58% of the vote to his war council, he finished college in 2001 and worked in government full-time. He bought himself an apartment and began to become part of various protest movements. He became the mayor of his ward of Two Rivers in 2004 with 62% of the vote, he also began to build connections with local unions during his time in office. As mayor, he voted to spend more on community development projects and encouraged the government to expand its spending. In 2006 he ran for a seat against an incumbent as an Independent and lost, he ran in 2008 once again as an Independent and won with 59% of the vote. He remained an Independent through 2012 when thanks to his influence he became the Minister of Transportation. During his time in office, he oversaw the building of high-speed rail from New Liverpool to Point Lee and created a program to rebuild local and regional train lines as well as the successful toll-ways scheme. In 2016 he was selected as the Centrist Party candidate over Joseph Zhang causing a major split in the party, however in two rounds he won against George Oliver with 55% of the vote.
