The 2017 International Democratic Union Film Festival was held in September of 2017, in Bears Armed, for the purpose of honoring IDU cinema. During the festival, delegations from eight nations within the IDU, and one foreign nation, voted on winners in four categories. Films were screened in cinemas throughout Council Groves, before being voted on. Lauchenoiria won in the category of 'Best New IDU Film' with their submission 'The Economics of Love' and was therefore awarded the right to host in 2018.
