History[edit | edit source]
North Kaijan was first settled in 10,000 BCE during the First Great Migration. A number of rice-farming kingdoms were established the most powerful being the Kaian Empire. In 640 CE, Minjian settlers landed on the northern coast and established the Cajiao Temple. During this period the name Kaijan was created to describe the "land of the Kaian People". The new Minjian state of Bandugo came under constant attack by local kingdoms such as the Jeblyana Empire who took over a majority of Kaijan Island around 1150 CE. In the 1300s, traders from the Hanifid Caliphate began to trade with the Jeblyana Empire who eventually made Islam the state religion in 1386. Eventually, the Jeblyana Empire collapsed from internal pressure, and by Serrielan traders who helped create the new Kingdom of Kaijan. Around 1450, great technological and scientific advancement began particularly in Kaijan City. Inventions such as central heating, dental equipment, and proper medical and scientific practices were produced by a generation of Kaiajese thinkers. In the 1700s, the Kaijanese Kingdom conflicted with the growing influence of the Costeno on the region which eventually led to the invasion of Kaijan in 1759. This began a period of colonial subjugation as Kaijan became a key livestock and sugarcane producer for the growing San Fernando Colony. Eventually, a puppet government was created known as the Province of Puerto Sol, the state only lasted until 1819 when a coup led by democratic reformers succeeded in brief independence for the island.
In the 1830s, the new Republic of Kaijan created a constitution and established a constitutional monarchy under Cailph Mohamed Bin Borro. Bin Borro also attempted to create diplomatic relations with the new Dominion of Slokais, although the new state was keen on influencing the new Republic's internal politics for economic gain.
