The Secretary of State for Equality and Minority Affairs, also known as the Secretary for Equality or the Equality Secretary, is the head of the Sanctarian Department of Equality and Minority Affairs, which is tasked with responsibility for disability policy, equality-proofing legislation, and the formulation of policies and legislation concerning with gender and racial equality.

The current Secretary for Equality is Ann Ramirez, who was appointed to the post on 01 February 2018. The department was officially created by legislation later that same day.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The Secretary for Equality is a senior advisor to the Chancellor on matters relating to human rights, gender equalty, minority affairs, and disability legislation and protection. Examples of areas that come under the purview of the Equality Secretary is responsibility for ensuring state services are accessible and non-discriminatory, resolution of policies and practices where the Government of Sanctaria is found to be discriminatory by independent bodies or the courts, and formulation and implementation of policies and legislation that reduce barriers in policies for designated minorities.

The Department of Equality and Minority Affairs was created on 01 February 2018. Its functions were transferred from other government departments and agencies, most notably the Department of Justice.

Duties[edit | edit source]

Duties of the Equality Secretary include, but are not limited to:

  • Formulation and implementation of gender-equal policies, including gender quota legislation.
  • Responsibility for the designation of ethnic, linguistic, or racial minority status in Sanctaria.
  • Liaising with independent bodies such as the Sanctarian Human Rights Commission on matters affecting minorities.
  • Provision of support services, such as grants and funding, to the disabled and physically/mentally impaired communities.
  • identification and resolution of discriminatory State practices and legislation.
