Looking for a nation or two
#1

Hello! So I've been working my nation's factbook and wanted to have foreign nation to establish a colony that would become Modern-day Tearvan. I think it would be fun to have another nation involved in Tearvan's finding and would help me with developing the rest of the history. I got a basic outline of the history regarding the colonization of Tearvan but it's all just early concept and subject to change.

Points about the history I have in mind
  • Colonizer found a colony, the type of colony and date tbd
  • Tearvan purchases it's independence, potential catalyst include economic crisis, prolonged war/conflicts, or changing political opinion within colonizer's country.
I know it's not much to go off of but I really want the history to interact with the IDU and honestly I'm not good with coming up with this stuff Tongue . Feel free to ask any questions or leave suggestion.

Hey, glad to see you want to integrate into regional history and whatnot. I would suggest maybe looking at the backgrounds of various nations in the IDU and seeing if any would be a good fit for a potential colonial founder for your backstory, and seeing if that player would be interested in working out a mutual history with you. Many players are more than happy to work out such collaborations. Smile

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitively look around.

Howdy,

Do you have any specific years in mind, either for the establishment of the colony or its independence? That will probably help narrow down the search, especially if you want the establishment of the colony to occur on the earlier side of things (1500s). Additionally, what type of culture are you looking for?

Hi,

I was thinking maybe early 1600s for establishments but 1500s could work too, as for independences, maybe mid 1800s? I don't really have a set time or date and was hoping to mold the date around the colonizers. I don't have a particular culture in mind but maybe any western culture? I'm open for anything really.

Sounds Similar to Kolda my 3rd nation, and I think we're in the same area also. Kolda was "discovered" by LOM, and they fully by Laeral a few decades later.

Good evening, I'd also recommend LOM, especially if your nation is English-speaking. If you want Spanish-speaking colonisers I have a historical nation called Costeno which then unified with others to create Lauchenoiria, who had a colonialist phase until the 1870s when their monarchy was overthrown and their remaining colonies were kind of... abandoned, mostly. But some gained independence earlier than that. If you want German speakers, talk to Shuell.

Libertas Omnium Maximus had a brief (and relatively unsuccessful) attempt to establish a colonial empire between 1880 and 1910 (approx.), but this would probably push the timeframe forward too much, seeing as you had hoped for an 1800s independence. Libertas Omnium Maximus wasn't actually founded until 1802, so you might have better luck with Valahandia, a puppet of mine that had an extensive colonial presence between roughly 1500(ish) and 1700. Most of its colonies achieved independence in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Though its culture has never really been all that developed, it was a Celtic-inspired empire that gradually began to integrate Christian naming conventions and customs as the years went on.

Valahandia actually sounds pretty interesting to be my nation's colonizers, the history of Valahandia matches pretty well with what I have in mind.

In addition to the worthy suggestions above, The IDU has quasi- non-player-nations New Darya, Central Liberalian Republic, and Porphurya that are available for facilitating role plays among nations. They haven't gotten much use yet.
