Mariya Adema (born 17 June 1979) is a professional interrogator from Kerlile who presently works for the Ministry of Loyalty in Xiomera. She is wanted for the carrying out of acts of torture in numerous countries including Lauchenoiria, Huenya and Eiria.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Little is known about Adema's early childhood. After her national service in Kerlile, she attended the University of Hazelton, studying the Kerlian discipline known as Persuasive Techniques - a euphemism for the academic study of torture techniques. After her undergraduate degree, she immediately studied for a masters degree in the same subject, graduating in 2007.
Career in Kerlile[edit | edit source]
After her graduation, Adema was employed in a mid-ranking position within the Restricted Region where she quickly attracted the attention of Yamunda Patel and Pauline Pierre, gaining the friendship of the latter and her support with career advancement. Little else is known about Adema's career in Kerlile.
Career in Xiomera[edit | edit source]
At some point in 2019, the Council of Kerlile sent Adema and nine other Kerlian interrogators to work in Xiomera after the closure of the Restricted Region, the majority of whom remain unidentified. During the Second Xiomeran Civil War, a number of said interrogators refused Calhualyana's order to torture former Empress Yauhmi; however Adema is believed to have complied. After the conclusion of the war and the partition of Xiomera, Adema's reputation began to grow throughout the dissident and criminal worlds around Xiomera, with Adema gaining the nickname of "Calhualyana's Kerlian demon" - a nickname that Adema has embraced on social media.
Alleged crimes[edit | edit source]
Adema is said to have tortured Yauhmi in order to try and force her to abdicate from the Xiomeran throne. She is also believed to have been behind the torture of two Lauchenoirian citizens - Irene Ramos and Clay Moss - after their kidnapping for being members of Watchdogs of Our Earth.
